Octopus energy billing

I’ve been with Octopus since they took over from bulb and receive monthly statements. I’d built up around £1700 of credit based on the statement they sent 9th February. I went to look up how to get this overpayment back (husband currently out of contract) and it shows online £770. I queried this and after much backwards and forwards it seems that they’ve only just applied a yearly charge for electric: apparently they’ve been charging me monthly for gas only and now have charged a full years electric. Does anyone else have this? I’d wrongly assumed that the charges were for both.

Did that to us, we're currently landed with a £6,000 bill 😭

It sounds less than ideal, but is it not also partly on you to have checked the bill?
Hopefully the credit will have covered the bill, so you aren't left having to pay out more when you thought you might get a refund.

Ask them to switch it to monthly billing for electric. Good that you had the credit to cover it.
I've been with octopus for years - they do sometimes do some odd things with new accounts but I find their customer service very good and they will for sure be happy to change your billing regularity.

They did this to my elderly parents 😡

They did offer them £100 as a sorry though so do ask for this.

Do you give monthly readings? What does it look like on your account? Mine shows the charges for gas and electricity separately and gives an up to date balance each month

The figures circled in red are my charges and the ones circled in yellow are my balance totals after charges and after my monthly payment is credited
