What does a cleaner do?

Am considering hiring a cleaner. Am wondering what type of things do they do in general?🤔🤔🤔

Depends on what you want them to do but standard expectations would be:

  • clean bathrooms in full including toilets, bath, shower, sinks, and floor mopped
  • clean kitchen in full including hob, worktops, sink, and floor mopped
  • hoover everywhere
  • dust wherever they can round the house, if you have left clean surfaces
  • take the bins out from kitchen and bathroom

Of course they will be able to do a lot more if you have tidied anything away on the floors and surfaces to allow them a clear run to clean.

I would expect anything beyond the above to be by prior arrangement with the cleaner, for instance, I wouldn't expect any of the following to be done unless you've told the cleaner in advance you'd like these done:

  • putting a wash on/hanging out/folding and putting away
  • watering plants
  • throw away stuff that looks like rubbish - eg. would you want them to throw away dead flowers in a vase?
  • cleaning the carpets (ie. going beyond a normal hoover)
  • tidying (should they move clothes that are on the floor? clear countertops?)
  • making beds/changing bedding
  • washing windows
  • cleaning out fridges/microwave/dishwasher

And they will only have time to do the above if you make it easy for them to clean the bathrooms and kitchen quickly by tidying things away first. Or you pay them for the extra time.

Cleaning, changing beds, tidy up. Lifesavers if good. They will do what you want depending on what you agree and what you want doing

Yes, just tell them what you want, be clear and be realistic about what can be achieved in the given time and make sure they don't have to waste it moving things out of the way in order to clean.

I have had cleaners for many years. I tidy before they arrive and clear away as much as possible. Everyone has different ideas but, for me this makes the best use of their hours.
floors - vacuum and mop
All visible surfaces washed, tops, sills, cupboard fronts.

Extras which require additional hours from their normal.
washing doors, windows, cleaning inside of cupboards , bed making, washing and ironing.

It is important not to under-estimate how much time thorough cleaning requires and to agree what will be done at the beginning of the contract. Ask them to sign a written contract which clearly states your requirements.

Mine also does the ironing and makes the beds.

She will do other jobs occasionally if asked, e.g. clean windows, clean fridge.
