You make them sit to pee. Men do not not need to stand and wave it about, it isn't obligatory. In Germany everyone sits to pee so this doesn't happen.
It is not emasculating.
House rules. My DS never left the bathroom in a mess ever.

Queenmaker · 30/01/2024 22:15

Have you put one of those plastic targets in the loo for them to aim at? Also make sure they know how to dry themselves before they move away from the loo so they are not dripping everywhere. I am assuming you don't have carpet or any flooring that would soak up pee?

WhyAmINotCleaning · 30/01/2024 22:16

I haven't tried it, but I think I read on here something about shaving foam as a cleaner.

noooooooo · 30/01/2024 22:18

Came to say shaving foam! Put it all round the loo in a thick layer and leave it. I lift it with a shower blade, it’s really effective.

Theunamedcat · 30/01/2024 22:21

Shaving foam and make sure your floor is sealed I have a sen child who does dirty protests when I annoy him my floor isn't sealed and I'm a renter 🤢 I've lifted the unsealed edge and foamed inside to take the smell away and sealed it myself fingers crossed I'm getting a bathroom refit soon (I have asked because of this issue)

Ikeawarrior · 30/01/2024 22:23

Get rid of a pedestal mat if you have one. Vile disgusting things. Regularly clean the floor with bleach. Use a rim block for them to have something to practice aiming at (I have two boys and it works!)

Are you sure it's the kids? My bathroom mysteriously stopped smelling of stale piss when my ex left.

How old are your boys? If they're only just potty training and still little, then leave it a few years for stand up wees.

SgtJuneAckland · 30/01/2024 22:24

How old are they? My just 5 year old mostly stands to pee and doesn't get it on the floor.
Except the time when the cat attacked the strings hanging from his pyjama bottoms while he was going and startled him.... Even then he called for help and is capable of using the spray mop

RenovationRenovationRenovation · 30/01/2024 22:25

You get them to clean up after themselves. You have to be on them. Were on the floor, they clean it up. Wee on the seat, they clean it up etc etc

I have never needed to resort to a ping pong ball in the toilet to get them to aim, but could work. Sitting can work.

But most of all, they make the mess, they clean up (even if you need to do it properly afterwards).

I have a boy heavy family and my toilet is clean.

11NigelTufnel · 30/01/2024 22:27

Just wait until they start "sword fighting" with the streams. That really spreads the joy 🙄. I think I just paln on getting new toilet at some stage.

MonkeyPuddle · 30/01/2024 22:28

I use shame.

I shame them for thinking it’s ok to leave urine around.

I will drag any dirty fucker who leaves piss on my bathroom floor back in there to clean it up.

My 6 year old knows how to wee sat down or stood up, he also has accidents, he knows how to clean them up and does so.

Floralnomad · 30/01/2024 22:29

You need to train them to either wee carefully or clean up . I’ve had a son and never had this issue .

Klcak · 30/01/2024 22:30

I lived with a house full of brothers and the toilet always stank of piss. id try to get them to sit down.

LorlieS · 30/01/2024 22:36

I have two teenage sons (14 and 16) and their bathroom always honks of pee! It's foul!
In essence they're too bloody lazy to pop the loo seat up and they widdle all over it. So I'd like to say it gets better but...not IME!!
Their 3 yo sister, however, shares a bathroom with us and ours smells of flowers! 🤣

user1477391263 · 30/01/2024 22:37

Are you sure it's pee all over the room? I have two girls and a DH and they do NOT pee all over the place, but I still have to clean the toilet very frequently with special care, or smells come from the toilet itself; we have only one toilet in the house and it gets heavily used!

theduchessofspork · 30/01/2024 22:38

Some sort of target thing to help learn to point percy at the porcelain

I had no idea men sit down to pee as a matter of course in Germany, I just looked it up and apparently you can buy something called a loo ghost and if you raise the seat it tells you to sit down. So there you go.

BroadMaude · 30/01/2024 22:39

My oldest are 5 and 2

big boy wants to pee standing up because Daddy/his friends at school do it. He definitely unintentionally dribbles it. He does try and wipe it himself but he’s only just five, it ain’t perfect.

2yo is at the stage of wanting to be like his big brother so of course that’s a mess 😂

I do encourage sit down wees as much as possible but when it’s a battle of wills I’d rather they pee standing up than have an accident

the floor is tiled and sealed well so at least there’s no gross carpet or mat 🤢

I will try shaving foam!!

Even when the little one sits down he hasn’t got the hang of aiming into the potty so quite often we get a horizontal spray anyway 😂

FWIW, we can demand that people pee with care and clean up after themselves. We don't have the right to order people to pee in a position we approve of. I wouldn't be impressed if a male member of the family expressed an opinion about my toilet habits or sanpro or whatever.

LorlieS · 30/01/2024 22:49

@BroadMaude Does this "loo ghost" set off a loud alarm when they fart, too?!! 😆

We're talking about little children. We expect them to do many things, this is just one of them.

And maybe their dad should be modelling… maybe he should be volunteering to do that himself.

Queenmaker · 30/01/2024 23:46

I remember hearing my nephew as a 2 or 3 year old in the toilet with his dad saying "Good boy Daddy" as he had a pee 😂😂

GrumpyPanda · 30/01/2024 23:51

One more vote for a strict sitting down policy. If 5yo resists because he's emulating daddy then daddy gets to do the clean-up or supports you in urging him to sit. FFS.

Pourmeacupofhope · 31/01/2024 00:02

We might not have "the right" to order people to pee in an approved position but as a mum of toddler boys its me who cleans (and sits down to pee- so the smell bothers me most) so before anyone thinks of taking it to the European court of human rights, I don't think it violates the kids' rights to get them to aim for the loo when it's -always- us who do the hard work of scrubbing and bleaching and wiping shaving foam around the bloody bathroom after a day running around looking after everyone else.

Babla · 31/01/2024 00:43

I have 3 boys my bathroom never smelled
