How do I clean this light?

I had this cluster light installed above the stairs a few months ago. I love it. But, the glass balls are looking a bit dusty and I'm finding them impossible to clean.

I can reach them with the feather duster but as soon as it touches them they start swinging around banging into each other and I get scared they will smash. I can't reach with my hands to hold them still and, because it's above the stairs, there's no safe place to put a ladder.

Any suggestions? Or do I just need to learn to live with dusty balls?!

Do you have a long hose on your hoover? Maybe this with the brush head attachment might work? Turn the suction down so it doesn't grab onto them too hard and pull them off.

Get a second feather duster to brace it with and stop it swinging around.

I think you need two feather dusters a bit like giant chopsticks. B and M sell a flexible microfibre one you can shape the wire underneath. Use that to gently hook a ball and dust with other duster. Otherwise just live with dusty balls.

Two people and two feather dusters at least. One person steadies the balls using the dusters to minimise swing, the other dusts. Or live with it. Failing that new lighting that is easier to dust.

Ideally (in hotel or office or shops/shopping centres) it is a two person job using ladders or a scissor lift/cherry picker. But that’s not exactly practical in a house.

Pole with a hook, use pole to pull one ball away from the crowd and then dust it before gently setting it back in place. Repeat for all balls.

That was always going to be a nightmare to clean - we avoided a v similar fitting for that reason. But the suggestions of a hooked pole and long duster are genius!

@Minfor I have a very similar light fitting and I use a litter picker to hold the cord tight and then a long-handled duster to clean. I’ve found a microfibre duster to be best as the dust clings to it, rather than being blown around and settling back on the glass.
