New washing machine - new routine to keep it in order

We just changed our washing machine (after almost two decades!) and I am keen on keeping it in tip top conditions!
I never really cleaned the old one, well not regularly let's say and I will never know if that is what caused it to age or sometimes to have issues.

Can any one advice if what I am thinking of doing makes sense?

  • I only use powder (no liquid, no capsules), and I put it in the drum.
  • I rarely use fabric conditioner so I am thinking of using vinegar on every wash instead
  • I am thinking of setting up an 'alarm' once a month for a deep clean: wash the drawer and wipe the door, run a hot cycle with soda crystals, clean the filter
Anything wrong with the above? Missing anytying?

Something to combat limescale building up - I think PigletJohn advised me to always use a scoop of (soda crystals?) I can't remember the English name for this now as I looked it up in my local country. Actually maybe vinegar would do this anyway.

Also, leave the door ajar in between washes, never close it unless you are actually washing clothes.

I don't do a maintenance wash monthly, I try to do it a couple of times a year. But I do a 60 degree wash semi-regularly for cleaning cloths, so that probably dislodges some of the soap scum.
