Pots and pans cupboard driving me insane!!!

Just that really..

Can I please have some ideas about how to organise this bloody cupboard!

It's so annoying that I actually avoid putting pots and pans away and just leave some stacked inside each other on the job, or keep oven trays in the oven.

My DP has got no concept of noise and it sounds like an invasion is happening everytime he goes in there and I can't stand it any longer.

Any organisation tips appreciated! Extra points for pics!! 😄

I feel your pain! We have a similar problem, and that's WITH storing all the oven dishes in the actual oven 😳

Okdaisy · 15/01/2024 16:45

We use an ikea rail above the oven to hang them on. Much easier!

rrrrrreatt · 15/01/2024 16:50

I’m like you and find the noise unbearable. We have the tefal ingenio set so they all stack together nicely and I keep all my lids and handles in a pull out wire shelf thing at the top of the pot cupboard (under the oven) so they’re tidy and easy to find. Cast iron pots go behind them as they don’t come out as much.

Ive just commissioned my partner to put vertical shelves in the cupboard above the oven next so I can slide my baking trays etc in upright, so they’re sorted and easy to get out.

I hang some of my pans and the 🫣three colanders on the inside of the door of the larder. I put foam strips where they would bang against the door opening and closing, works well.

Also you can get several racks like plate racks but larger for lids and frying pans, which hold them steady.

For saucepans I turn the lid upside down and put it on the pan then stack the pans one on top of the other in their set of 3. Can't help with oven trays I'm afraid, they are the devils work.

Store oven trays on their side on a plate rack, like this one.

Same with sauce pan lids.

You get plastic foldy type lids that are easy to store. Throw out official lids. Changes everything!

MaggieFS · 16/01/2024 17:23

Drawers or pull out wire baskets are the answer. Game changing.

Thank you ladies taking all these suggestions on board! If they don't work they're all going in the bin!!

Vertical storage for trays, wire cooling rack & chopping board.

Declutter as much as possible - if your cooker has 4 hot plates you don’t need more than 4 pans (including a frying pan). Even professional chefs don’t - they’re just showing off!

VladimirVsVolodymyr · 14/04/2024 21:04

@CatHerderSupreme how do you cook with just 4 pans? I tend to batch cook, DH does make oven food. I can be making pasta sauce in 24cm pan, boiling chickpeas in another 24cm pan, cooking rice or pasta in a 18cm pan. I also use my Thermomix for soups and other recipes but I am a pan and hob cook 😂 so I need a couple of pans.

Firenanna · 14/04/2024 23:01

I ended up buying a new unit that had deep drawers and the pans sit in it individually with their lid upside down on top. They no longer clatter. Trays I have reduced to two only and they fit inside each other. And bliss a slow cooker is quiet and well behaved and stays in one place.

Armchairs · 14/04/2024 23:12

I only keep enough pans that fit with the lids on in the cupboard - I cannot cope with the stacking and realistically I was only ever using my “favourites” anyway. I keep a few “special” pans e.g. huge saucepan for hosting in another cupboard that’s less accessible.

I replaced most of the baking sheets or tasting dishes with circular Pyrex dishes and they stack and fit in the dishwasher alongside the dinner plates and I’m delighted!

Rummikub · 14/04/2024 23:15

I keep all my baking trays in the oven. And have three pans I use regularly on the hob. I dont go in my corner pan cupboard because I hate it.

I manage fine with 4. How do you use more than 4 at once, unless you have more than 4 hot plates of course!

Having loads of pans would just annoy me as they are not the easiest thing to store.

I think “less is more” definitely applies to kitchen stuff :-)

Giggorata · 14/04/2024 23:28

My baking trays are stored vertically on racks and my pans are on rows of hooks on one wall of my pantry. The colanders and strainers hang from the pantry ceiling.
The pan lids are all in a large metal basket. That really works the best for me. i tried a rack and I tried wall storage, but neither of those worked out.

If I didn’t have the pantry, I'd get an ikea rack and hang them from the kitchen ceiling, or possibly get an ornate wrought garden gate and hang that up as a pan shelf.

Cocorico22 · 14/04/2024 23:32

+1 for Ingenio/anything else where the handle comes off, literally all the pots and pans stack into one pile and fit in our pokey little drawers. The kids also are flat with a collapsible handle and stack nicely, it’s a dream come true 😉

they had a really good deal on their site a month ago, still a fairly good discount now https://shop.tefal.co.uk/ingenio-emotion-l897sm74-22-piece-pan-set-black

@Chachacha20 that's a great article with really good storage ideas.
@CatHerderSupreme I have a 5 hobs, forgot to mention that. Also it means I can do back to back cooking without putting food in containers when they're still hot.
I ended up buying an 80cm hob because there wasn't enough room on the 60cm hob. You're def right, less is more when it comes to storage.
