Anyone else doing TOMM?

I bought the book and the App recently and have given it a go this week. Would be great to hear how others get on with this method and how they adapt it.

Monday I was WFH and as soon as I finished work I did my 30 mins in the lounge. I did 1 load of washing but didn't bother too much with the other Level 1 jobs.

Tuesday I was in the office all day. I decided to make Tuesdays my hall, stairs & landing day and managed 15 mins plus did another single load of washing.

Wednesday I was WFH and did my other 15 mins hall/stairs session plus 30 mins bedroom just focusing on one room.

Thursday I couldn't get anything done as had meeting at school straight after work.

Friday my focus was going to be DS1's room. I did manage 30 mins in there plus hoovered the entire house.

I will def need to do some bathroom work this weekend though! I don't mind doing a bit at the weekend though. My priorities have always been hoovering and bathrooms so it's quite a change to focus on other rooms!

I’ve been doing it for a few years. More recently Tom rocks as well.

I follow it loosely, I change the days round depending on what I'm doing. So on a busier day I will pick an easy room like the hallway and stairs.
I definitely struggle to fit it all into 30 minutes though, for example we have 2.5 bathrooms so I can't thoroughly clean those in 30 minutes. I can't get bedrooms done in 30 minutes either, or all the bedding washed and dried on the same day (family of 5)
I also have a lot of laundry on the weekend like workwear and uniforms that need doing for Monday, plus level 1 jobs like hoovering so I don't get weekends completely off.
I'm probably doing it wrong, I know you're supposed to stop at 30 minutes regardless but I can't just stop halfway through so it's often more around an hour.

@yarnwitch we are a family of 5 and I know just what you mean about not fitting the jobs into 30 mins. We have 2 bathrooms and a downstairs loo and I would struggle to do one bathroom properly in that time! Maybe I need to go faster!!

I actually like using a timer as it does keep you focused. It meant halfway down the stairs I had to stop dusting though which felt odd. It has stopped me from just slumping on the sofa after work though which isn't a bad thing.

Just got the app yesterday, badly needed 🙈 There’s no way I’ll get all the level 2 jobs done in 30 mins. Seems quite unrealistic? Or are you supposed to just do your best for 30 mins and nobody really gets the full list completed?!

Aif1234 · 20/01/2024 00:36

Also, in the Bootcamp section, is there any way to add tasks to specific rooms? I know I can add them in on Saturday or Sunday but I’d prefer to have them sorted by room rather than all mixed up together….

Legoroses · 20/01/2024 00:39

I think the listen along sessions are much better than the app by itself. I think it's incredibly sensible and stops you spending 10 minutes on cleaning the inside of a door cupboard or something useless. I do stick to 30 mins. And then I do bitesize 5 mins in other rooms.

Anjelika · 26/01/2024 07:52

I've been disappointed with the App. I thought I'd be able to tick off the jobs I got done in the 30 mins each day so that next week I'd know what jobs to focus on in that room. A few weeks in, I'm not really following it at all BUT I am writing a list each week of jobs I want to get done over and above the essentials and focusing on them plus putting one load of washing on every day rather than letting it all build up.

Yeah, the app is no great shakes. Do the listen along trial and do the classic tomm sessions day by day. Really useful.

Did she have a second app at one point called The Organised Time Technique for time blocking? What happened to that one?
