It's shrunk

I was bought an expensive jumper for Christmas. It now would fit a ten year old because I put it in a regular wash which I've always done with my cheaper jumpers.

Can it be unshrunk ,I've been told it has to be damp.

I think AlwaysGin meant your initial 'crime' ie. washing it without checking the care label. You do sound rather cavalier about it, I'd be well upset if I was your dd.

Yes I know but I always stuff all my cheaper jumpers in a mixed load never had any problems, why she spent £200 on a jumper. Her boyfriend helped her buy it and I know he likes expensive designer stuff ,wears pricey suits, drives a flash resprayed cream GTR.
He even whispered to my dd , "look he's doing the washing up in it".But she did ask me to wear it on Christmas day , but it wasn't a good look with my sleeves rolled up.
I'm off to bed now thanks.

That's exactly what I meant. Thank you.

@Puppytrashedmysofa obviously I meant the way you washed it

Ok.Can I get a refund on it do you think. It cost £200 , cant believe it would shrink like this in first wash being such good quality ,never happened before with my other v necks.Thankyou for any help.

You didn't follow the washing instructions, so of course they're not going to refund you, as the instructions are clear, and it's not their fault.

Basically if a jumper has gone really felted/shrunk you are lucky to be able to stretch it at all. Some smooth wool jumpers can be recovered an inch or two but if it's really gone you might as well make it into placemats. It doesn't mean they aren't good quality jumpers, just that they aren't designed for machine washing.
