Getting rid of smells

I've just moved into a new house. One of the bedrooms has a small built-in closet. I am struggling to get rid of the smell, which is sort of musty but I was wondering if it might come from the paint (the paint is not new - the bedroom has clearly had this colour painted over).

I have tried cleaning the shelves with neat white vinegar, putting a bowl of bicarbonate of soda in the closet, and using a lavender sachet. None of these seem to be making much difference. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm keen to keep it natural if possible as we have a baby due in a few weeks and that is the closet where we are hoping to store baby clothes!

Do you have a dehumidifier or a friend you could borrow one from? That might help.

Thank you! Yes, we do. I'll try running it in there with the closet door open.
