Oil smell in washing machine

So my partner has spilt heating oil all over his jumper and then washed it in our new washing machine 🙄 I’ve done a clean of the machine and a 60 wash with nothing in (doesn’t go higher than 60)

the machine still stinks of oil. What can I do to get rid of this?! I have tons more washing to get through and I don’t want to ruin everything 😩

Husband put cloths covered in a petrol based cleaner into the washing machine the other week.....!

What worked - 5l tub of white vinegar - pour it in to the drawer several times during a wash cycle, add some baking soda and a sachet of washing machine cleaner on a hot wash. Twice.

What didn't work - 5 regular washes or bleach.

Air the machine between cycles as well. Do a final test wash with something non essential like bath mats!

Bicarbonate of soda is well known for its odour removing properties. combined with vinegar it fizzes and deodourises well. I'd google around for a recipe w bicarb of soda that works for a washing machine like this kind of thing:
