Feasible excuse needed for having 'unplumbed' old washing machine myself in fit of feminist equalism, only to flood the utility room. It has to be a good one, too, we've had words over my DIY before.

So, I undid the pipes at the back of the machine, and at that point realised I should have turned off the water at the tap connector stage. So there's pints of swill, spray patterns on the ceiling that look like something from CSI, I've mopped up, but the carnage is still evident.

I'm a moron for not checking, but is there something technical sounding I can use as an excuse rather than be reduced to giggling simpering girlhood to avoid a rant?

I hate that he has a point.

Um, can't think of one, but can't help being amused by your predicament!

LittleBella · 16/03/2008 18:41

Because he wasn't there, doing it, as he should have been?

BrothelSprouts · 16/03/2008 18:43

blame it on an alien invasion - it's your only hope!

sherby · 16/03/2008 18:43

You noticed a leak on the floor coming from under the machine, pulled it out to see what was happening and the pipe came off the back, hence the carnage

Excuse- "There was a SOCK stuck in the gubbins of the machine".
Excuse 2 - "I was looking for contact lense/ fiver/mouse"
Excuse 3 -"Big boys did it and ran away".

meander · 16/03/2008 19:03

How much ceiling dampness would a hairdryer get rid of, do you think?

I'd use Excuse 2, Otter, but he knows I only look for fivers in his emergency stash.....

You're not really helping, I'm now just larfing at the answers and chugging wine.

I might try the residual pressure one, he's not that bright linguistically, but he has a strange animal cunning when it comes to sussing out my cover-ups

OP posts:
meander · 16/03/2008 19:04

Actually, I'm going to use Otter's excuse 3

....because I'm pretty sure I used aliens in the Great Kitchen Shelves At Jaunty Angle Affair of 1998.

Can you hint at a Sudden Emergency which Overwhelmed Your Judgement?

(Am pmsl, btw.)

Have posted on your other thread, by the way, but must go and rescue whingeing DD2 who is protesting at the utter unfairness of a world in which she has to pick tomorrow's clothes without help.
