Rescue whites that have gone grey

I have inadvertently dyed DD's brand new white PJs a muddy grey in the washing machine. Is there any way of reversing this?

The internet is saying half a cup of white vinegar in the drum of the washing machine. Sounds a bit more gentle on the fabric than bleach which is what people used to try.
