Housekeeping when unwell

I normally follow a combination of TOMM routine with bits from Flylady but just wondering what is reasonable to try and get done when feeling unwell? I wouldn’t do anything if really unwell but I have a bad cold right now and feel that I need to try and do some kind of maintenance. Otherwise will have a lot more to catch up on in a few days which stresses me out. So, today am going to try to do the following in between lying down and taking paracetamol!

  1. Do dishwasher and any washing up.
  2. Make bed.
  3. Wipe kitchen worktops.
  4. Swish and swipe of one bathroom.
  5. Take rubbish out.

What do others do?

Depending on how unwell I feel, I just do the things you suggest keeping things ticking over. Rest up and if you're feeling ok, just tidy a bit and tell other household members you're not great and can they keep things clean.

They're are no medals for housework, look after yourself.

I'd probably put dirty dishes in the dishwasher and wipe crumbs from the bunker.

Anything else can wait, unless someone else can do it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Are there no other household members who can do a bit of housework while you rest and get better?

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 27/12/2023 08:23

How ill? And who else is in the house?

Properly ill as can go to the bathroom and back I’m happy if I can shower, brush my teeth and hug the kids.

Under the weather or can’t be arse. I would do a load of washing, robot hoover on upstairs, school/nursery runs (obviously not house work but needs doing) and make dinner and do all the associated kids stuff homework, physio, make sure they empty bags. DH can do the dishwasher, clean kitchen after dinner, robot hoover upstairs and bins if I’m too unwell to do my share.

Shove everything in the dishwasher and put it on.

Put the bins out if they are coming to collect today.

Then go back to bed.

Thanks, all. Yes, just done the minimum and then back to bed.

I do the dishes, albeit slowly
Wipe benches
Feed pets
Clean toilet if I have something contagious
Make bed later in the day if feel upto it.
