Mattress topper recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a good mattress topper to soften a very firm mattress? We stupidly brought a mattress without trying it and it’s just too firm for me (but DH likes it). Looking for one that won’t make me hot at night as I tend to run hot (which is bound to get worse as I’m close to peri-menopause).

I recently bought a panda topper after thinking for months how uncomfy I found our (new!) mattress. It's amazing! I have recommended it to loads of people.

I have this one from John Lewis and I love it. Used on top of a very frim mattress, it gives me the best of both worlds.
I especially appreciate being able to zip off the top layer and put it though the washing machine.
You might need to consider whether your fitted sheets will accommodate the additional depth though.
