Cats and Cleaning

I have two infant DC (1 and 3) and two long haired, indoor cats (with litter tray indoors).

Litter tray is changed fully twice weekly, and scooped daily. Laminate flooring is steam cleaned daily, stair carpets brushed daily and hoovered a few times per week. Leather couch wiped down daily with disinfectant spray, and obviously kitchen counters disinfected regularly and before any food prep.

Despite this, my mother makes constant comments about how my house can't possibly be clean enough for infant DC with two cats living with us. She doesn't like animals - cats particularly - but I'm starting to get a real complex!!

Surely others have small DCs and cats. Should I be doing more specifically?

Of course I don’t expect you to rehome the cats ffs! I’m just trying to get you, unlike most people on this thread, to imagine for a moment what her problem might be and not to write her off as a crank like I’m being here 🤷‍♀️ I dunno. Just a thought.

I “wipe the footprints off if I’m expecting visitors.” Have you any idea how grim that sounds. Ugh.

It’ll only be a bit of mud, not poo! Cats are very fastidious and are normally very good at keeping themselves clean. I’m lucky that my house isn’t open plan, so I can shut the door on the kitchen and if I’m in there, the cat won’t jump up. If he ever sneaks in, it’s no big deal to dettox the surfaces. Maybe it’ll hearten you to know that cat saliva has antibacterial agents in it, so if they lick the kitchen counters, it’s almost as good as wiping them over!

Good grief. Im miserable now as well as a “snobby judgemental freak” who hates cats. Just for saying that I find an animal walking on food prep areas to be grim. I know I am not alone in that since most people on mn consider not showering daily or flushing the toilet with the lid up to be akin to murder.

I opened the thread and hoped you'd found a way to encourage cats to do some cleaning...
Bit disappointed tbh

😂😂😂 This made me spit out my coffee! Sadly not... I'm sure even if they could, they wouldn't!

I'm severely immunocompromised with a cat and don't do half of what you do!
