Damp found in house survey

Hi all

I've had an offer accepted on a new house, and have accepted an offer on my own (around 4 weeks ago).

There's no chain either side so was really hoping things would move quickly.

I've just heard that damp was found on the survey done on my current home and the buyer understandably wants a damp survey done.

The house is quite old and although I can't see any noticeable damp patches anywhere, it doesn't surprise me as it does really need windows and doors etc replacing (get condensation issues, slight mould in bathroom etc after a period of hot showers).

Does anyone have any advice on how we can improve the damp before the survey? I have borrowed a humidifier which is on now but no idea how long I need to have it on in each room, each day? I'm also going to keep the heating on more than normal.

Thanks!

Hopefully it's a dehumidifier, not a humidifier? I would put fans on and get as much airflow as you can through the house. Fans one side sucking air in, fans the other blowing air out. A powerful dehumidifier may do a better job, but it would have to be a commercial one, not a domestic one.

If you have anything against the walls outside, move it away, and check for anything breaching the damp proof course.

Do you have any idea where the damp was found?

Yes sorry I meant a dehumidifier! They came back to us and told us that it's just under our bay window in the living room, which we could actually see so hoping the dehumidifier will help. Just nervous if the damp surveyor will now check the whole house over for damp and find more, rather than checking just that one patch
