mine sometimes smells rank until I wash very thoroughly all round the back of the seat,a dn sometimes round the base on the floor etc

I blame men and little boys who DON'T AIM PROPERLY

is it definitely from inside the bowl?

I use essential oils - sometimes olbas oil or sometimes lavender mixed with peppermint
hopefully the males in the house are then relaxed... yet alert

southeastastra · 10/03/2008 20:37

you might have a problem deeper in the pipework, sounds rank

Before calling in the heavy mob, you could try spirits of salts, which is the common name for hydrochloric acid. You can get it from hardware shops or builders' merchants. It comes in a red plastic bottle, ime.

'Tis evil stuff, though. Handle only wearing rubber gloves. Tip the entire bottle down the loo (gently, you don't want it splashing), close the lid as fast as you can (the stuff smokes), open the windows and leave it for an hour. Flush and hope for the best.

I was shown this by a plumber, btw. It is really really nasty stuff though, makes bleach look like lucozade.

it may be a broken pipe way down the line, probably not your problem, but the water board

yes, they'll probably be having the same problems if it is a broken pipe.

could be a blockage though, i've rodded the whole drains along here to clear one. really better off getting dynorod or someone though.
