On fireplace heath. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? We carved our pumpkins too early...!!

What material is the hearth made of?

guiling · 02/11/2023 21:28

Slate. Thanks and sorry for slow reply (kids!)

We've had this too. Would be great to get a tip on how to fix it!

OK, for slate I'd try a vinegar and bicarb paste, leave it a few minutes then gentle circular movements to scrub it.

It's probably either a water mark from a damp or slightly rotting pumpkin or calcification - I used to get that under a planter on the slate hearth in our old house.

When it's all clean and rinsed, and THOROUGHLY dry, you could give it a rub with WD40, that helped mine from getting marks so often.

(edited for typos)

I'd be interested to know if you got rid of this stain and how you did it? I've something similar in my slate hearth from pumpkins. Tried a few things to clean like vinegar and sodium bicarb but nothings worked so far. Also oiled but when oil dries out stain reappears 😬 any tips would be great. Thanks x

Bumping this thread for more answers. Rotten pumpkin aftermath here too 😖

Have you tried the pink stuff paste in a tub? I would try a bit in an inconspicuous area first.

WD40, I use it on most stains . Got road Tar out of my carpet !
