Has anyone heard of this oven cleaning 'hack'?

I'm dubious, both from an effectiveness and safety point of view, but it does sound easy so I'm tempted! It's dishwasher tablets again but used a bit differently, so tablet in a bowl of boiling water, oven on at 100F and leave for an hour then (supposedly) a quick wipe round and done Hmm Toxic fumes are a concern possibly, damage to inside of oven? Mine is filthy and FB clearly knows it if it's throwing hacks at me but I'm not sure I'm brave (or stupid?) enough to try it. All thoughts welcome before I ruin my oven!

I use dishwasher tablets all the time, fairy first to get the residue off. Bicarbonate of soda is the next scrub and then my dishwasher tab! Clean as a whistle

Aw damn! I'm so sorry IP, I didn't read you fully! I blame the flu and two hot toddy's

You poor love, get well soon!

Thanks for all replies, am seriously considering the oven cleaning man, if I can get over the shame of anyone seeing the current state of my oven Blush

How coukd thus possibly work?

DurhamDurham · 31/10/2023 07:45

Our oven was filthy. I borrowed a hand held steam cleaner which had a metal brush attachment and it worked a treat. V little effort and no nasty chemical fumes. Couldn't believe how easy it was.

Another vote for getting someone in. The guy I use has a waiting list. Last time it was £80 but that was for two ovens and the hob, just the oven in £40 ish.

I found DH doing this the other day, it took him ages and didn't make a dent. I used the normal spray on oven cleaner stuff and it barely took any time at all and it works - it's just a gross job.

I think if you've left the oven too long before cleaning it, a dishwasher tablet isn't going to cut it.

Oven pride left over night or longer if needed.

Oven Pride or pay someone else to do it. I've been using Oven Pride for years, my oven isn't corroded.
I have Pink Stuff, it's good for some things, but doesn't make a dent in my oven, I suspect I'm more slovenly than the average Mumsnetter, my oven approaches biohazard territory.

I’ve also never had an issue with corrosion with oven pride, perhaps I don’t do it often enough.

I don’t worry too much about the oven, everything gets hot enough regularly enough it should kill anything I reckon
i would like to get a man but I worry I’ll get a cowboy.

The heat is good up to a point, but it's when it gets to the point of smoking and I worry that it might catch light. Then I have to break out the Oven Pride. 😅

I got someone in to do mine. It looked amazing afterwards. Then it broke…

I agree with this. I once had a guy out for an oven clean and he applied a massive amount of force with a tool to try and rip the actual fan off for cleaning. He couldn’t get it off, but the oven cooked unevenly after that.

at the time, I was wincing at his brute force and ignorance. We used it unevenly for a while and then when another part went, we thought sod this and replaced the oven.
