How much for a window cleaner?

tinselvestsparklepants · 26/10/2023 10:18

I all, I've never used a window cleaner but I think the time has come.... roughly what do they cost and how often do you get them done? I'm in a country cottage so no road muck but I e got some new big windows letting light in and boy can I see the grime! So three questions - is it worth it, how often do you have them done and roughly how much to expect to pay? We have 15 windows including 2 doors and 2 skylights. Thanks.

Mine charges £10 for the front of a small London terrace (ie 3 sash windows and a bay). I think that's pretty cheap. He comes every 6 weeks on average, at a guess, just turns up and does it.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/10/2023 10:26

I pay £8 for a semi in Solihull. He never does the back although I've mentioned it but he would have to bring all the stuff through the house so it is front door and 3 windows

kikix · 26/10/2023 10:28

I needed mine done recently as a neighbour did an extension and they really looked dirty. I couldnt believe the price. I got multiple quotes between £40-50.

I would do it monthly if it was cheaper but i'll just go with as and when.

Standard sized house, loft windows, london area.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 26/10/2023 10:29

Mine is £8 for a three bed semi, front, back and side. £5 if we're out and the back and side are locked. I'm in the north and think that's fair, but one of my colleagues was horrified and claims to have hers done for two quid 🤨

DuploTrain · 26/10/2023 10:29

We pay £8 which includes the conservatory. He comes every 2 or 3 weeks. We don’t get to decide how often, it’s just when he does his round in our area.

To be honest it’s not the best as he uses a ladder (not the hose/brushes on a long pole that most people use now) so there’s several windows he can’t access for various layout reasons. e.g. bedroom window above conservatory.

But he’s a nice older chap that does other houses on our road and we don’t have the heart to tell him we don’t need him..

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 26/10/2023 10:38

North west. He comes every 6-8 weeks (now more 8 weeks as he's working on his own these days) and it's £16 including the conservatory. 4 bed house, 13 windows and he even does the glass doors outside.
It's a ladders job, doesn't use a pole. I think it's pretty cheap to be fair to him!

Freshstart78 · 26/10/2023 10:42

We are midlands. We pay £30. We do have 20 very large windows (2m x 1m sashes) plus about 8m fully glazed doors. So consider it a good rate.

He offers separate price for skylights which are £30 as he needs to bring a partner and there’s 16 1x1m of those

tinselvestsparklepants · 26/10/2023 10:57

Wow, loads of responses and really quickly! Thank you. I'll get some quotes in from local firms but this gives me a very good starting point. Thank you all.

I'm in Dublin.

€40 every 6 weeks or so, you sign up to a rolling contract & he comes when he's in the area, texting the night before. It seemed a lot but is one of those costs that's so worth it!

External windows, front & back, & skylight. Not indoors. I hate doing those & definitely don't as often as I could. Semi-D house.

jiinglebells · 26/10/2023 11:08

North west - £10 pm. 8 windows and a door on the front, 7 windows, 1 door and a large french bay section at the back.

Uses poles and some sort of clean water and it's fab. Hasn't upped his prices in years, we tip well at Christmas and always make sure gates are unlocked. He's got a waitlist and is really good!

LubaLuca · 26/10/2023 11:37

£20 for ours. 14 windows (4 bay), 1 French door, 3 doors. I think it's a good rate, but it is just cold water and a brush on the big pole - no soap which always makes me wonder.

cocksstrideintheevening · 26/10/2023 11:44

£10 for front of a three bed terrace, bay window, front door panes, bedroom windows upstairs. Can't reach the velux.

Is he does the back which is patio doors, kitchen window and upstairs bedroom and bathroom it's £20

PaminaMozart · 26/10/2023 11:51

These responses are so diverse. I'm not sure my "£40 for 6 windows" would be of use to you! This is so type of house and location specific. You need to ask your neighbours.

StrongBlackExpresso · 26/10/2023 11:59

£20 for once every six weeks. We're up North and I've never counted windows but we have a lot! Four bed with extension and skylights and patio doors.

£15 3 bed house. About every month. Same as pp ref no soap etc so I tend to do a big clean of bifold doors in summer

TwistedSisters · 27/10/2023 16:37

£26 here for 14 windows, front door, 4 pane sliding doors and a small glass outhouse. East of England.

berksandbeyond · 27/10/2023 16:41

I think I’m getting rinsed but it seems to be the going rate here (I did get a few quotes). £21 for 6 windows and a set of patio doors, in Home Counties.

Omg we've just paid £55 for the conservatory and he did a shit job. That's as the cheapest quote too, window cleaners are hugely expensive round here, it's a shock after being in London!

HeddaGarbled · 28/10/2023 23:37

We paid £40 for the first time and now £30 every 6 weeks. Big 4-bed in the SE. My mum pays £18 for her bungalow.

fetchacloth · 28/10/2023 23:41

I pay £10 for cleaning windows back and front.

Ihateslugs · 28/10/2023 23:55

I live in a bungalow so no upstairs windows. I have 13 double size windows and two doors and he also cleans the sills and the awning cover ( stands on a little step to reach it). He charges £8 per visit and I have no idea how often he comes, probably every 6 to 8 weeks. He also cleaned out my gutter in the Spring for a one off £20.

He is a lovely chap and I think his service is well worth it.

Lemoncurd · 28/10/2023 23:55

Ours was £56 for first clean, £46 going forward, may need to get some more quotes!!
