How to shine up letter box?

What product do you use to polish up a letter box? Mine has gone all dull but was lovely and shiny when I bought it

If its brass, either Brasso or BarKeepers Friend. The latter is also excellent at cleaning Le Creuset pots

I use WD40 on ours.

Does anyone else remember the smell of that cleaning wadding in a tin . Blue or red tin depending on what metal you were cleaning.
Duraglit or something.
