Why can my DH only 'dust' with the vacuum cleaner?

Drives me mad...

OK, OK, I know I should be grateful that I've got a DH who does anything (although I'm not really - it's his house as much as mine, and we both work the same hours...) but I just can't fathom why his answer to any household cleaning job is to use the vacuum cleaner...

He was CLEANING WINDOWS with it today, FFS....

He uses it with the brush attachment to dust window sills, tables, the mantlepiece...

bleugh....

I know it's good to get rid of all the dust etc, but some things just NEED a good wet cloth and elbow grease surely??

Have you tried asking him to do it your way? Personally I would say YABU as my dh would never do any cleaning.

it's a man thing...to dust with a duster is far to feminine. He needs a big tool he can wave about

MrsRecycle · 08/03/2008 18:54

It's not a man thing - my cleaner does it and it drives me mad - have had to have the hall redocarated where she "dusted" the skirting

He simply won't do it 'my' way foofi.

I suppose it annoys me for a few reasons:

  1. it scratches the surfaces of things like the paintwork and the coffee table.

  2. it also doesn't seem very hygenic to be rubbing the same brush over e.g. table surfaces, as been cleaning the edges of the stairs, or the sofas

  3. DH has asthma. I read up about various ways to try to keep allergens at bay etc (mattress covers, carpet cleaning etc) and one of the things recommended is damp dusting . When DH does the vacuuming he often has a huge coughing fit afterwards, but refuses to believe it's anything to do with the vacuum cleaner. Strange how it happends every single time
