Are spin dryers still around? Are they worth buying?

Just in case anyone is asking these questions- the answers are yes and yes! I bought a White Knight spin dryer 15 years ago. I use it regularly for heavy items and hand washed clothes. Amazing the amount of water extracted so saves tumble drier time. Cannot use it though for bulky items like duvets or blankets.

Why not just use the spin cycle on your washing machine?

Yeah, I also don’t get why you wouldn’t just do a second spin on the washing machine…

My lovely Nan had a spin dryer and loved it. She did all her washing by hand though (never succumbed to those new fangled washing machine things!). If you have a washing machine, doesn’t that do the same job?

Loved mine, was sad when it died 20 years ago and replaced with a tumble dryer.

Stuff comes out near dry, nowt like after an extra spin in the washing machine

Spin dryers extract way more water than a standard washer as they spin about twice as fast! Probably important if you want to save money on drying. Lots on Amazon.

Mine too, I used to love sitting on the kitchen work top while she hand washed everything, then watching it wizz in the spinner. She'd then hang it all on a wooden clothes horse and iron everything, even the socks.

They do get things much dryer than the spin cycle on a washing machine.

I have never thought of this. My mum.had one. I'm tempted now to buy one for myself as I do a lot of washing

Dogsitterwoes · 08/10/2023 19:20

God, they're brilliant. Everything comes out barely damp.

I used to have one yeas a go, though the washer I had was only 800 rpm and the spin dryer was about 3000rpm
