New Fridge - Insufficient Ventilation

Due to a failure of a very old fridge, I have just ordered a replacement under the counter fridge, checked size etc for delivery tomorrow.

Unfortunately reading the manual in detail I have just realised the recommended ventilation space is a whopping 100mm either side of the appliance ... I had misread it as 1cm when ordering the fridge. I have about 2cm either side.😫

There is enough rear and more than the recommended above space .

Does anyone know if the reduced space will be a real issue? Is this a fire hazard? Do I need to cancel it and get a different model?

I feel like a real fool, but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It can cause damage to the fridge, the surrounding cabinets and increased use of energy. If the fridge does then develop a fault it also wouldn’t be covered by the manufacturers warranty if it has not installed with the correct ventilation space.

“What could really go wrong if ventilation is overlooked?Poor ventilation will affect the performance and efficiency, resulting in the below potential issues:

  • Use more energy.
  • Not maintain temperature.
  • Excessive condensation can cause damage to surrounding cabinetry.
  • Cause the compressor to overheat and fail.
  • Cause irreparable damage to the cooling system.
  • Shorten the life of the appliance.”

Thank you....I'll phone the delivery company tomorrow and try to switch it.
