Best way to clean an iron?

Sorry, a boring question! My iron plate is really dirty and it's marking the clothes so I've had to stop using it for now until I figure out how to get it off.

It looks really burnt/brown, how do I get this off and prevent it from happening in the future? Tips please

Yes turn your iron onto the hottest setting and rub a paracetamol over the dirty parts then wipe quickly with a damp cloth 👍🏼

Swear by the paracetamol method, I grip them in tweezers so I don't burn my fingers!
