Just that really. It was £4 something in our local Sainsburys. I went to buy another bottle yesterday and it's gone up to £8! Is anywhere selling it cheaper or should I look at Dettol laundry sanitiser as a cheaper alternative?

It was £8 when I last bought it quite a few months ago 😔

Autumnunmasks · 01/10/2023 11:46

From Amazon

I'm sure it was around the £4 mark last month in sainsbury's. It's good stuff but I'm not sure it's worth £8!

From Amazon

It’s £16 a bottle on Amazon now!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/10/2023 18:14

It was definitely £4 in Sainsbury's until recently - that is a big hike!

WhereAreWeNow · 02/10/2023 19:45

What on earth is going on? I wonder if one of the ingredients has become hard to source or something. Or company changed hands?

I have it on subscribe and save on Amazon and it’s out of stock most months now. Something’s up.

ManxRhyme · 02/10/2023 22:03

The dettol one works quite well. Strong though so I tend to use it in the wash rather than in the fabric softener drawer.

@WhereAreWeNow

i hate anything scented, everything gives me an instant headache, but I started using the Dettol Antibacterial Laundry stuff during Covid for hand towels & a few other things & I love it. It has a very clean fresh smell that doesn't make my throat hurt or give me a headache!

ive just noticed there's a new 'fragrance' out, but I won't be trying it!

WhereAreWeNow · 03/10/2023 06:36

Thanks everyone. I think I'll give the Dettol wash a go.

the dettol one i have says put in fabric conditioner draw, why there and not the main wash?

BetsyBloom · 05/10/2023 22:13

I tried the Dettol one before I started buying Halo. The Halo was miles better. I don’t use fabric conditioner in any of my washing so when I had the Dettol I used normal powder and the Dettol in fabric conditioner drawer. Certainly didn’t clean sweat out of clothes like Halo does.

dementedpixie · 11/11/2023 20:46

I noticed this the last time I was in Sainsbury's. I'm not paying £8 for it!

Is the gymwash stuff quite good @booksandbeans ? Do you use it on it's own or with detergent too as it says to only use 1-2 tablespoons?

WhereAreWeNow · 11/11/2023 21:36

I refuse to pay £8 too. I've bought some of the Dettol stuff and so far so good. Washing smells nice.

OP posts:
booksandbeans · 12/11/2023 08:22

@dementedpixie gymwash is very good. If it is just a light wash like gym kit i just use the powder and it comes out smelling fresh and not of sweat and BO. If it is a tub load with mud and dirty clothes I often add some normal detergent as well.

I have always bought Halo until I went to Sainsbury's and was shocked to find it had doubled in price. It is good stuff but not worth £8. I go to Lidl now. If it goes down in price then I will use it again but no way at this price and I am guessing by the full shelves others have stopped buying it too. I have found it on sale at Quality Save once for £2.00 a bottle!!

Do Lidl do their own version?

doodlepants · 15/01/2024 18:56

Yeah was £4.50 at our until recently went up to £8.50

MaMaJoJo3 · 16/01/2024 23:57

No sadly not but I do recommend Lidl's own brand of laundry liquid as it is the only other which gets rid of smells , stains etc that I have tried and I have OCD (germaphobe!) so have really tested a lot. I love Halo but to suddenly double the price with no explanation is not good customer care in my view !!

DelightfulDoris · 23/01/2024 22:21

Try the Astonish Brand. Their stuff is great. The antibac clothes wash is £2.49
