I hate my husband’s toilet brush

sunflowers365 · 21/09/2023 20:20

My husband insists on having a toilet brush. I can’t stand toilet brushes- I don’t think they are a hygienic thing to have in the house. He had never, ever cleaned it, and I do it when I reach the end of my tether with seeing it. We have a baby crawling around so I’m doubly grossed out by the thing. I want to convince him to throw it out, but he tells me it’s the best way to clean the toilet after he does a poo. It’s obviously not, because the poo stays on the brush and sits in poo filled water on the floor. Ew. I use kitchen roll and a cleaning product if I need to clean it after I’ve used it. Please help me settle this marital feud!

Look up duck toilet brush. It's essentially a handle that you add a Disposable wipe to. Plus has a built in cleaner product so easier then just a toilet brush

TicTacNicNak · 21/09/2023 20:26

I have a flat silicone one that has a holder that attaches to the wall. Better than the old traditional brushes. The Duck ones with the disposable heads sound good too.

organicapricot · 21/09/2023 20:27

Don't flush kitchen roll down the loo! I agree those silicone ones are much better and easier to clean.

ArcticBells · 21/09/2023 20:28

I have a brush but replace it regularly as they are so cheap

WaitingForSunnyDays · 21/09/2023 20:29

Another vote for the silicon ones!

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 21/09/2023 20:29

Hmmmmm....so you are complaining that your DH cleans his shit stains or is this a stealth brag 🤔

sunflowers365 · 21/09/2023 20:29

Thanks everyone. I try to be as eco friendly as poss as I don’t like buying plastic things. Thank you.

That's very commendable but if you want a member of the family to leave the loo clean, you need to find an easy solution otherwise you need to clean it yourself

Noorandapples · 21/09/2023 20:34

Don't get a silicone one they're rubbish. Just tell him to replace it every now and then and to pour bleach over it after holding it under the flush water each time he uses it. If it's kept behind the toilet your baby won't touch it, unless you let your baby crawl behind the loo 🤷🏼‍♀️ then you can just wash the baby, no need to throw it out

FictionalCharacter · 21/09/2023 20:35

He’s not using it properly.
We have toilet brushes and don’t leave them dirty. You flush the loo, put toilet cleaner round the bowl, clean with the brush and flush again, rinsing the brush in the clean flushing water. Then you tap the excess water off. If there is so much mess that there’s still poo on the brush, you clean it again.
As an IBS sufferer I do a LOT of toilet cleaning!
I also put a little bit of concentrated Zoflora disinfectant in the bottom of the brush holder and change the disinfectant regularly. It never smells.

emmylousings · 21/09/2023 20:37

Your DH just needs to learn to wash poo off the brush with an extra toilet flush.

emmylousings · 21/09/2023 20:38

Oh, and tip the water in the holder down the loo...

Rodders92 · 21/09/2023 20:39

I have a silicone one which is brilliant but have had some rubbish ones before it’s the JosephJoseph one much easier to use and keep clean

Gowlett · 21/09/2023 20:45

My DH is the same with his toilet brush. He cleans away the shite, but then leaves it on the brush. So it sits in a pool of shite water, with shite globules all over it. Anyway it’s in his bathroom… Along with his hairy sink, and empty toilet roll holder.

In my bathroom, the brush is not used for the same function. But, to scrub the loo during cleaning, like squirting Domestos on it to do the rim etc… I think it was Catherine Zeta Jones who said that separate bathrooms are the secret to marriage.

No don't do this, incredibly bad for the environment. Seriously what's up with people

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 21/09/2023 22:23

I am so with you op.

I'm shuddering just thinking of that loo brush sat in the corner. Festering. Multiplying.

But then I have problems.

I do this and also when I clean the bathroom I fill the toilet bowl with bleach and let the brush sit in it for a while. My brush looks brand new

Cowlover89 · 21/09/2023 22:25

Just get him to pee the poo stain away.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 21/09/2023 22:28

My DH has a rancid toilet brush.

But it’s in his bathroom, so I just try to pretend it doesn’t exist.

He also refuses to engage with the fact I have left soap in a dish for him to use in there.
It’s been moved well out of reach and is covered in dust nearly a year later……..

Tilllly · 21/09/2023 22:41

I thought this was a euphemism

Cleaned the loo and the brush after following the good advice on this thread. Now feeling virtuous. Thank you.

It's far more wasteful to use kitchen roll every time, rather than a brush that lasts for years. just keep your baby out the toilet.
