What's your recommended ways of cleaning well worn (children & dogs) laminate flooring so that it looks like new again??

Pledge soapy wood cleaner, on your hands and knees! (sorry, but you asked)

mcfee · 04/03/2008 12:57

d'you know, I do that at least once a week as it is and twice at the moment because of the weather / the dog's dirty paws but because its laminate it can't get too wet / soapy or it warps and also I can't just get the shine back on it.

well that works for mine. I usually just give it a quick wipe over, but once a week I try to do it as I told you to, and it seems to work. We also have a dog (and 5 kiddies) and live on a farm!

mcfee · 04/03/2008 13:06

maybe I'm not using enough elbow grease!!

well you can only scrub so hard cant you!

cazboldy · 04/03/2008 13:09

obviously we are the only ones sad enough to worry about scrubbing our floors

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 04/03/2008 13:13

That's just what happens with laminate unfortunately. It also tends to need replacing after just a few years. If you can then invest in solid wood flooring.
That can be sanded back and recoated when it starts to look worn out and tends not to show up dirt as quickly as laminate.

mcfee · 04/03/2008 13:17

don't give me ideas! I will end up trying to rip it up tonight or something! Maybe I'll just buy a larger rug!!

Oh no don't tell me it only lasts a few years. My poor dh nearly ended up in therapy laying our laminate floor.

White vinegar and warm water. That should bring out the shine again (and it;s cheap). Good sloh of vinegar in half a bucket of water.

EffiePerine · 04/03/2008 13:21

(the prob with solid wood flooring is that it dints and scratches really really easily)

Eliza2 · 04/03/2008 13:22

Good tip, thanks EffiePerine!

I use white vinegar for cleaning windows but hadn't thought of it on floors.

mcfee · 04/03/2008 13:58

I'll try that EffiePerine!
Flooring is 6 years old FluffyAnimal. Depends how often you would change a carpet if you think its good or bad.
I thought it would have maybe lasted 10.
And I do clean it properly once or twice a week and then use floor wipes on the other days.
