SMEG fridges - are they any good?

Moving house and previous owner had small under counter fridge. We have 3 DDs and currently run tall fridge which is pretty full most of the time.

New house has a larder so could store some veg in there meaning perhaps could get away with smaller fridge than atm. But, only place to put taller fridge at new house would be next to where we would hang coats as come in back door. Hence thoughts were moving to aesthetically pleasing curvy fridge as opposed to glaring white or stainless steel. New house is an old cottage and we are re-vamping 20 year old hand made units to avoid the ripping everything out and starting again scenario.

I know its trivial in the scheme of things but...

they look nice but i don't have one.don't they take up more room than an ordinary one because of the curvage

I've got an intergrated SMEG fridge/freezer, and love it. I received great service from them - very customer focused, and the SMEG delivery men were fab. I'd definately buy a SMEG product again - worth the extra money.

It looks great, but performance wise it's rubbish. It's only two years old and the seal isn't very strong at all. The door handle for the freezer part broke about a year ago; it took three months to be replaced because they sent the wrong piece. In that time we couldn't use the fridge as the freezer part is incorporated.

One of the drinks holders is also broken, that part broke very quickly.

My sister has one and I know she loves the way it looks, but it seems to me that given how mahooosive it is, there's not all that much space inside it.

A colleague of mine had one that repeatedly broke and wouldn't recommend them. My mum's friend has a similar looking one by Aga.

We've had one for 8 years and it's fine but stainless steel impossible to keep clean (baby oil a fridge?!) andthe freezer needs to be defrosted every few months.... but it's much better than our Smeg cooker which was apalling

Do you mean the retro SMEg fridges, curvy edged ones? If so, don't buy one. I bought one new and, like a few of the above posters have said, it fell to bits. The seal wasn't strong enough for the weight of the door and hung wierdly leaving a gap on the seal. Water dripped constantly from the top of the inside so we couldn't use the top shelf of the main fridge or everything got soaked. A SMEG engineer who came out recently to fix our washing machine said they all have that same fault (the faulty seal) and people should steer clear of them. He said he was telling me "off the record!". I also had a SMEG dishwasher which arrived with a cosmetic fault to the exterior finish. It took me about twenty phone calls and staying in waiting for an engineer who didn't show up a few tmes before I gave up and decided I'd have to live with the fault. They just wore me down by promising to show up then not doing so. I was shocked when this year the Smeg bloke actually turned up to fix my washing machine as my past experience of them had made me believe their customer service was crap. I still think it's crap by the way.

my smeg constantly drips water as well. It sounds like they have all the same faults.

Pity they're so good looking! But i think a few other companys are making retro looking fridges now.

There was one in the Home section of the Sunday Times yesterday which looked much like a curvy SMEG. I'll have a look when I get home and get the name for you.

I haven't got a SMEG fridge, but I had a dishwasher which fell to pieces after 18 months, and I'm still using the SMEG hob and oven. The gas hob is fine, but the oven short-circuits - often! And usually when I have a joint in the oven and 307 people due for lunch in 20 minutes.

Really?! Oops, sorry I just assumed... Maybe they don't even make them anymore-I am pretty old. They had a pretty little pack, all petit and red and white with cute 1920's lady on it. But I gave up smoking about twenty years ago

Smart arse- that is a good looking fridge and a good price. Thank God we can all abandon SMEG now. (even tho I already have done)
