Stinky laundry

Help!

My washing is coming out of the washing machine smelling all musty and damp. Weirdly it’s not all the washing, my kids clothes are fine but mine and DHs (mostly DHs really) smell.

I’ve done a washing machine cleaner thing, and cleaned the drawer. I use powder and no softener, I put white vinegar in the rinse section.

What else can I try?

Use double washing powder and put it on the longest hottest wash possible for the fabrics.

Have you tried cleaning the filter? That may help.also

Do they have the smell going into the machine as well? Since it’s not all of them I’m wondering if it’s to do with damp in your wardrobe or something rather than the washing machine itself

I have this occasionally with synthetic fabrics and use a scoop of oxyaction in the wash. Not sure it's the best thing for the clothes as such but does the job!

Clean the seal and the filter. Wash on a hot wash with bicarb and lemons.

Use powder not pods.

And line dry outdoors.

Use Dettol Laundry Sanitiser

Is it a specific fabric? I use astonish laundry sanitiser for sportswear as the synthetic fabric can smell bad sometimes

This. Sweat is a fatty substance and most men sweat. If you have anything that isn't pure cotton/natural fibres, any synthetic element repels water meaning it's much harder to get the fatty sweat out of the garment.

Wash the offending items on a 60oC wash with a pre wash and a full amount of biological powder.

Soak clothes in a bucket of water with a cup of white vinegar for a few days before washing.
