Can I wash this in the machine?

I have a backpack for my son from my first years and it's very grubby. It says on the website hand wash only but it's still looking tired.

Has anyone successfully washed a bag like this in the machine without ruining it?

I wash ours

I wash rucksacks inside a huge mesh bag on a delicate wash and hang outside or over the bath to dry.

I wash similar bags in the machine. I tend to use a washing up sponge with washing up liquid to give it a good scrub all over (with the gentle scouring side), rinse and repeat if it's very grubby and then pop in the machine still soapy on a handwash cycle (low spin). Pop it in a laundry bag / pillowcase to protect the straps and zippers etc.

Perfect thank you! I was just wary as it had little reflective bits on the straps and I wonder if it will take the colour off of it
