How to get rid of cigarette smell?!

Does anyone have any tips for how to get cigarette smell out of fabric?

My nana passed away last year very unexpectedly, just before I found out I was having my first baby (would have been her first great grandchild). My gorgeous sister made me a baby blanket out of her old dressing gowns, and its such a thoughtful and beautiful present. Baby is coming Thursday (planned section) and I would love to bring her home in it.

The only problem is our nana was a VERY heavy smoker and smoked indoors to the point where you couldn't go to visit her without the smell clinging to you for a good couple of days. The blanket absolutely stinks of cigs, both me and my sister have washed it multiple times and its just not budging.

The smell does remind me of her however I can't even hold the blanket without my hands and clothes smelling of it so I can't put a newborn in it 😂

Please does anyone have any ideas? Its not a delicate material so please throw me all of your suggestions!

Soak in white vinegar and bicarb in a bucket for a few hours. Then wash with bicarb in the machine. Not much else I could think of because of the blanket being used for a newborn. X

I'd not use it for a baby personally, as the chemicals may remain the fabric and risk the health and safety of your baby

Also not to be a busybody, but if made of smokey fabrics, i wouldnt use for a newborn baby, even if it has been washed x

@AmilyChestnut @babygirl88 thank you both, I'll try to get rid of the smell and just have it as a keepsake rather than use it as a blanket for her xx

Hang it on the washing line for about a week!
Then wash again in Dettol anti bac washing liquid.
And repeat until the smell goes away.
