Dishwasher capsule doesn’t dissolve! What type do you recommend?

bought Finish quantum all-in-one dishwasher tablets (lemon - if that makes a difference) and they are awful. They don’t clean the dishes and leaves a sticky mess in the tablet compartment where it doesn’t break down properly.

please recommend me a dishwasher tablet which works every time! thanks

Might be an issue with your dishwasher - those are pretty good tablets! I would give your dw a deep clean (you can buy those cleaner pack things) and make sure you’re running a hot enough cycle.

Pop into tescos/waitrose/sainburys and try a different one. Goodluck.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 29/07/2023 19:56

I had similar problems and with different types of tablets. I now use Sainsburys dishwasher gel which dissolves properly every time.

Dishwasherr · 29/07/2023 19:57

@Xrays thanks. I do this every month already and it’s only happened since buying these tablets. Annoyingly I can’t remember the type i used before as i got rid of the packaging a while ago.

I use Aldi's own range (Magnum I think). They are cheap and work perfectly, would recommend.

Have you tried throwing them into the bottom of the dishwasher and not using the drawer? Might be worth a try with the ones you've got left.

dementedpixie · 29/07/2023 20:19

@Dishwasherr what cycle are you using? Maybe you need a hotter longer cycle for that type of tablet

Rufffles · 29/07/2023 21:28

I've been chucking my Smol tab into the bottom of my machine (rather than in the dispenser compartment) for every cycle for a while now and it's been absolutely brilliant!

Roselilly36 · 31/07/2023 06:38

I agree with PP, Aldi Magnum all in one dishwasher tabs, are brilliant, always perform well in our dishwasher. I think they are around £4.00 for 40 tablets, you don’t need to unwrap them either. Would recommend.

Ihaterain1 · 31/07/2023 13:38

They do the same in my dishwasher, most other brands are fine, i found any type of fairy the best for cleaning and dissolving

GloriousSludge · 31/07/2023 13:50

I use the loose powder rather than tablets or gel capsules. Cheaper and you can adjust for how dirty / big the load is, and no problem with stickiness or the outer not dissolving.

Yes it does sound like a dishwasher issue I use these

frazzlerazzle · 31/07/2023 17:55

Try chucking the tablet straight in the bottom of the dishwasher.

Spanielsarepainless · 31/07/2023 17:56

I buy Lidl ones. Never had a problem.

User265438765 · 31/07/2023 17:59

I use Fairy platinum plus, I use the eco cycle and they are fine, I have never got on with Finish ones.

Tulipvase · 31/07/2023 18:04

I don’t know what tablets we use as we haven’t had a dishwasher for long but we have found that if something affects the water flow early on in the cycle, the tablets don’t tend to dissolve properly.

ReviewingTheSituation · 31/07/2023 18:05

Smol. Love them. Never had any issues at all. I think they work out a few pence more than Own Label ones, but because they're on subscription you don't notice the cost as much - the £6 just comes out every 45 days (in my case, you can set whatever delivery schedule you like).

MigGirl · 31/07/2023 18:13

I use tesco own tablets, never had a problem with them. I do tend to always wash on a hot wash.

Not most own brand products are just the last formulation of the branded products. I used to work for UNILEVER and when they invent a new formula they sell the old one on so own brand stuff is just as good your just not paying the premium of the brand or R&D. I only used branded stuff when I worked for them as we got it in the staff shop really cheaply.

doradoo · 31/07/2023 18:24

My Miele dealer here in Germany said never to use tablets but always the loose powder as it's much better for the machines.

shams05 · 31/07/2023 18:26

I use Lidl or Aldi own brand, never had a problem with them. Fairy are good too but triple the price.
My machine recommends finish but I found they tend to get stuck or not dissolve fully so own brand it is.

Nattalie18 · 31/07/2023 18:28

Your water isn’t hot enough

Turmerictolly · 31/07/2023 18:37

Aldi premier 3-in-1

Denimdreams · 31/07/2023 18:41

I use Astonish 100 in a bag from Amazon.
Chuck in the bottom.
Do you run a monthly cleaner through?
Also if you are using a low temp it might not dissolve them

UsingChangeofName · 31/07/2023 18:44

I use Aldi's own and never have any issues.
It might depend on what your water is like to some extent though, and it might also be affected by the cycle you use.

LadyDaisy42 · 31/07/2023 18:51

I used to use Fairy Platinum, had no issues with it and one day the supermarket didn't have any in stock. So I bought Asda own at less than half the price - literally the exact same end result. Have never bought Fairy Platinum since. Try some of the supermarket own brand.
