Made wool carpet stain worse

I attempted to fix some small stains with the internet recommended solution of 1l water and 1 teaspoon each vinegar and washing liquid. This has made the so much worse with there now being large water coloured stains on light beige carpet.

I’m reasonably sure the carpets are wool. Obviously lesson learnt to patch test first but any tips? I’m happy to call the pros in but now worried I’ve utterly damaged a relatively new carpet.

You need to clean a stain from the edge inwards to stop the stain spreading. I would use vanish and a scrubbing brush. Start from the edge of the stain and work towards the centre using only a little water. Dab excess up as you go with a white cloth, an old t towel or pillowcase. The stain should come out, but you might then have a clean patch, so will need a carpet cleaner anyway.

I am an expert…..cream carpets and red wine several times!

Could salt work?

@antidisestablishmentarianism thank you! This confirms my view I’m just going to get a pro in. I just daren’t make it worse again. I’m so annoyed at myself!

Just coming back for those looking to learn from my pain… get the experts in! They couldn’t fix my original stain (god knows what it is!) but my even worse attempts to fix it are thankfully are gone.
