How do you clean silver plate ?

I have done it with brasso and the silver comes off. Do not want to ruin other things but they are getting sort of tarnished and dirty looking. Thank you

Isn't brasso for brass? You can get silver polishing cloths that are impregnated with cleaner (or mitts, which work well). Just rub, and the tarnish comes off.
