Small double bed - bedding

WorkCleanRepeat · 14/07/2023 16:32

DS talked me into a highsleeper gaming pod type bed. He is 7.

It takes a small double mattress. I've ordered fitted sheets in the correct size but can't seem to find the correct sized duvet.

Should I use a standard double? Or a single with it being up high? I'm not sure whether there would be much in they way of space for excess duvet.

Majot PITA to get correct sized bedding, LA Redoute does the size but it's not called the same thing so you need to check measurements. I bought ordinary double fitted sheets just tucked under farther, Dunelm did have some small double sets.

just use a standard double duvet

There is a company called The Big Little Duvet Company who do larger than standard single duvets. They are longer and wider than a standard size single duvet but not as wide as a standard double duvet. They do duvet covers to fit the duvets as well. They have got an on-line shop.

Presumably he has a single already, so I’d try that and see if it feels a bit small.

DS has a small double as it fits neatly in his room. We buy the fitted sheets from Dunelm and just use a regular double duvet.

If you’re near an ikea their ‘single’ size is wider than a standard single so might be about right and they start at very low prices, you do then have to buy or order the duvet covers from there though.

Just make life easier and get a normal double size.

Ragwort · 14/07/2023 17:56

If he's already got a single duvet just use that, pointless to buy a new one.

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/07/2023 18:21

DD has a small double and we use a normal double duvet on it. Like @Ragwort though I would probably continue with a single duvet if I already had one, particularly for a young child.

I just use a standard double flat sheet and double duvet. Back when I bought small double beds it was almost impossible to get the correct size bedding. The standard sizes always worked fine for me.

DelurkingAJ · 14/07/2023 18:27

DS has a double (used to be the spare bed) but happily uses a single duvet…so I’d do that.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2023 18:39

I just use standard double sheets and duvets for my 2 dcs who have small double beds

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 14/07/2023 19:12

There are lots of small double bedding sets on Amazon .. fitted sheets , matching pillowcases
I have 2 small double's and they both just have a normal double duvet

Sewingdufus · 14/07/2023 19:30

I’ve always sized up on duvet size compared to the bed, so I would just use a standard double.

PuttingDownRoots · 14/07/2023 19:33

DDs are10&12 and prefer single bedding on their double beds as they are lighter. So if try his current bedding first.

sunshineonbeath · 14/07/2023 22:07

I have same for DD. I order small double fitted sheets on Amazon, but got a regular double duvet and covers.

Mossstitch · 14/07/2023 22:18

A standard single covers the bed edge to edge, as he's only 7 I'm sure his single will be fine and easier for washing and making the bed👌
