Fabric Dye question

This is sort of more Style & Beauty but isn't IYKWIM.
I bought an item of clothing on ebay. I wanted a bright red one but it is like a lightish reddish orange colour. It was described as 'Red'

Should I return it, or could I dye it bright red? It's 100 % cotton.

You can die it red with the Dylan machine dye. There's a nice Tulip Red one which is kind of deep, dark red but there is a bright red one too I think. I do this all the time with old, faded clothes or things the kids won't wear cos they don't like the colour.

The only thing you have to watch is the thread. Sometimes even 100% cotton clothes are sewn with nylon/polyester thread which doesn't take up the dye so I've had clothes that I've dyed a dark colour and then it looks bad as the light thread really stands out.

But if the thread is alread a red colour, it would probably come out fine.

The other thing you have to watch is that there are no stains on it that would dye unevenly so make sure it's really clean before you dye it. It seems to come out more even if the the clothes are already wet to me too so I not all wash them as normal in that washing machine, then add the dye and immediately put in again as per the instructions (40 degrees, and no conditioner (or washing liquid/powder?) and set it off immediately.

Thanks. I think I have a red Dylon in my bits'n'bobs cupboard from not getting round to re-dyeing some faded red curtains. I might try it. The garment was too cheap to send back, unless I try to claim that it should have been described as orangey red or coral or something. I've got a pair of coral trousers I could chuck in too. Coral is actually one of my 'colours' but I'm more of a primary colour personality.
I could just re-sell it, I suppose. I'd probably get my money back

I’ve been very disappointed with the Dylan red. It’s not a proper pillarbox red, if that’s what you wanted?

Yes. Bright red. Is Rit easy to use?
