Pen on dining table

FilthyforFirth · 15/05/2023 17:16

So my delightful child and his friend have put felt tip pen all over the wooden dining table. I have used wipes, polish and even a bit of dettol but whilst it has faded it is still there.

Any tips on how to remove it? All gratefully recieved!

Elbow Grease spray

Tippex Grin

Seriously, make a paste with baking soda and a bit of water, apply to a cloth and then add elbow grease.

FilthyforFirth · 15/05/2023 17:22

Apologies for being thick, do you mean just work really hard, or is there an actual product called elbow grease?!

No,it’s a product. B&M always carry it,I think Asda too. Honestly, it is a miracle worker!

Baby wipes

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin · 15/05/2023 17:28

You can also try hand gel, it removes everything!

Clymene · 15/05/2023 17:28

Oh sorry! I see you've already tried those. Hope you get it off. My son and his friends have wrecked my dining table Sad

Hairspray or WD-40. Spray on, wipe off. Shifts pen on walls and radiators too!

CheshireCat1 · 15/05/2023 17:30

Toothpaste will get it off.

Divebar2021 · 15/05/2023 17:31

My daughter got Sharpie on our wooden table and my DH got it off with toothpaste. ( not a stripey one) - seems like there are You Tube videos for the precise details. Good luck.

Hairspray works brilliantly.

Toomanycaketins · 15/05/2023 17:51

Those magic eraser sponge things?

FilthyforFirth · 15/05/2023 18:01

Thank you all, some great suggestions. I shall see what works and report back!

Is it actually wood or a wood veneer?

If it's solid wood and all the products above fail to clear it then you can sand and varnish/oil/wax based on what finish you want.

Cheap hairspray or alcohol such as vodka/gin. I used hairspray to remove old ink stains from a desk. It was amazing.
