Slugs inside the house

I have just been woken up by the cat miaowing loudly. Went downstairs to find a large slug next to his bowl. Went to the kitchen to change food/wash bowl to find another one there. Yesterday there was one in the living room, and we are constantly finding slug trails.

We remove them, obvs. We've blocked all holes, but the buggers keep coming back. DP not keen on using chemicals etc.

Anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do to get rid of them? It's utterly gross.

We get this occasionally. No idea where they come in, it’s been very wet today so there’s more around. No solution. There’s copper tape you can get but it’s not that effective.

Sorry not much help!

Are you sure your cat isn't bringing them in as gifts? The meowing was to tell you how clever he was.
Mine bring worms in!!

I just ignore them. They've all magically gone by morning.

My mom finds slug trails in her lounge most mornings, but we've never actually seen one! Also tried covering all possible gaps but still happening. She doesn't have a cat flap, so it's not from there. Very odd!

Had this in a old house, they were coming in from under the kitchen cabinets and then laying eggs so the problem was just never going away. I put a line of salt all at the kick boards, baseboards and under the French doors and it stopped them completely for good. There was a little slug graveyard when I checked but it stopped them continually reproducing.

Thanks all for the tips and support.

Definitely not the cat bringing them in as he was inside last night.

Hoping it will calm down once the weather improves!

We had them when we had a leak on the water supply pipe under the house. DH lifted the floorboards and could see a pool of water on the ground under the house. As soon as the leak was repaired and the ground dried up we never saw another one in the house.

The slimy bastards talk to each other, I swear. Once you've had one - they just keep coming in to party. I had to put slug pellets down the side of my living room carpet. That stopped them.

My sister had them in her utility room and it turned out they had collected in a wall basket which she had outside by her boiler pipes / outlet and they were coming in through the pipe holes . She threw the basket / plant away and hasn’t had a slug since .

I used to find slug trails every morning in my kitchen and if I happened to be up at night I'd sometimes find the little slimy horrors working their way across my floor. Not good if I'd gone downstairs in bare feet...

After some detective work following their trails I discovered they were coming from the gaps in my pvc door frame (drainage gaps possibly, or air vents, not sure).

Much as I hated them I didn't have the heart to kill them, so I just removed them every time I found one (threw them into the bin for food waste, pretty sure that's slug heaven?) and after a while I must have got them all as we haven't had any in months.
