Vacuum cleaner fix - I need collective Mumsnet brain power

A screw had become stuck in my shark, when the 'wand' slots into the body... It obviously won't slot in now so doesn't work as an upright.

I think my frustration has fogged my ability to think of a way to get it out.

It's totally wedged. I've tried the age old butter knife and screw drivers to unwedge it with no joy.

Help me!

How about cutting a wire coathanger and leave a bit protruding like a letter J effect to hook it out.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/04/2023 09:36

Long nose pliers? Or a wire saw?

Halfull · 29/04/2023 09:45

Is it stuck or just unreadable? If unreachable, how about a magnet? If it’s stuck, WD40 and try again with the screwdriver? It might be me but I can’t see a stuck screw on your picture!

Ladysaurus · 29/04/2023 10:07

It's proper wedged in. In the picture its wedged near the bottom, horizontally where the three prongs are.

I'll have a look what I have in my tool box. I don't think any pliers are long and narrow enough...

Ohhh I see it now! Can you loosen the little screw that’s holding it down and release it that way?

SmokyForTheWin · 29/04/2023 10:56

Can you get a pair of reptile feeding tongs? They'd probably reach.

Ladysaurus · 29/04/2023 11:47

@Halfull it's not held down there's three metal connectors that fit into the handle of the vac to make it work.

Thanks for the recommendations every one. It's still a work in progress...

We've had some... Movement... Whether it's progress remains to be seen. But the pointed end is unwedged. Now something to grip and pull I think. Alas, none of my pliers are needle-nosey enough....

No sooner had I posted that last message when I managed to get a good enough grip with my wire cutters and the bugger is out!!!!

As pathetic as it sounds... I really needed this win.

Thanks for your help ladies

Do you have a wine cork anywhere? Screw in into the screw and then pull it out.

Ladysaurus · 29/04/2023 12:08

The culprit!

Can you turn the vacuum upside down and just shake it out. Or use something long to dislodge it a bit more and let gravity take over?

dementedpixie · 29/04/2023 12:34

@Ladysaurus glad to see you have won against the screw. Well done 👏

Telephoneman · 29/04/2023 13:23

Dont go putting screws in your vaccuum cleaner again.

Oh, goody, we have a man to let us all know where the OP went wrong.

I can't imagine how we would ever have coped without him.
