I am setting up a cleaning business and wondered what extra touches your cleaner does that sets them apart from others?

interested to hear what goes down well!

My cleaner used to fold the loo rolls ll into a point.. I would rather she has feather-dusted into the room corners to remove cobwebs.

A long time ago i used to have my oven cleaned regularly.
She always left the sink and surrounding area sparkling when she had finished.

Automatically wiped down kitchen cupboard fronts (even when not obviously dirty) - just made the kitchen feel really clean.

Would offer to come for extra time to just do the insides of all the windows when she noticed they needed doing. I was very happy to pay someone else to do that (live in old house and have dogs, so they get very dusty!)
Put tea towels / dish cloths into the wash and put out clean ones. My current cleaner does the first part but never puts out clean ones (of which there are plenty), which sounds minor but is just irritating when you go to grab a cloth and have to root around in the drawer with wet hands to find a clean/dry one!

A little something "extra" each week, like one week they cleaned the microwave, another week they'd deep clean the laundry room, another weeks was cleaning the patio doors.

What I'd really love is someone who manages it all for me. So has a routine of weekly tasks, plus extras that mean everything is done over time, rather than me noticing and remembering to ask could you hoover under the sofas (or whatever) this week.

My old cleaner used to sometimes leave me a handful of Ghanaian sweets. It was just an occasional thing but they were so lovely.

Surpriseparty · 28/04/2023 14:45

Our cleaner changes the beds, and does any ironing that needs doing. Extras could be cleaning skirting boards, cleaning and tidying the fridge, and dusting lampshades. Ours will do all that if we ask, but it would be good to do it all as standard. Also, make sure the loo is cleaned thoroughly, especially round the back of the pedestal.

Our good one:
didn’t leave early
did the bits that only need doing occasionally, by remembering

noone has ever got the ceiling cobwebs

Eggseggseverywhere · 28/04/2023 14:50

Cleaner here...
Little things I know are appreciated are..
Washing pet bowls.
(learning pet /dc names!)
Offering to check place over when customers are away.
Watering plants.
Offer to make the coffee!
Take in parcels..
Obviously do a great job in general!

My cleaner used to put flowers from the garden in vases. Not sure if I liked this or not - could she have spent the time cleaning, would I rather the flowers remained in the garden?
She would also do the toilet roll thing (trained at a hotel).
What I specifically asked her NOT to do but she went ahead anyway was organise my bedroom drawers. She'd already done the kitchen which was fine, but my personal stuff is off limits!

When i had a cleaner she cleaned the filters on my vacuum cleaners which was amazing.

Tinybrother · 28/04/2023 15:13

Omg the ceiling cobwebs. I think they’re less visible in the daylight but picked up by lamplight in the evening so you sit down on the sofa and there they are…
ive always just done them myself because no one else ever sees them

Yeah, this. Mine does all the usual stuff plus the nice but not necessary stuff like the toilet roll folding, but I would rather that she was a bit more proactive and did this, especially as she sometimes leaves 5 or 10 minutes early when surely there’s a window that could’ve been cleaned or something, and sometimes she leaves cobwebs in corners and dust on bedside lamp bases and stuff. My old cleaner used to put my electric toothbrush on charge which was very nice of her (no shaver socket so in the bedroom)! There are some things I could prob ask her to do but it would be nice if she suggested herself like changing the downstairs loo hand towel and tea towels as PP suggested.

So in short…

do the basics properly
have a list of other stuff to do periodically as and when there is time (or ask if they want to add extra time to get it done every now and then)
be proactive!

dinmin · 28/04/2023 15:14

ohhh yes and emptying / cleaning vaccums!

User2538309 · 29/04/2023 11:29

To be honest, the most important “extra” my cleaner does is just being a spectacularly lovely person. We try to leave the place respectable but she will be flexible around family, home working, sometimes things need a bit more tidying, small amounts of washing up.

We have been putting her pay up regularly without asking just because she is amazing and we would be lost without her.

Other things:
hang the washing if asked
make all the beds, change the sheets if we leave sheets out
plumping up the sofas
