Is the Miele cat and dog any good?

I need a new hoover for a 2 bed flat, mostly carpet but the kitchen is tiled. I have 2 cats, one of whom is a very hairy ragdoll who sheds everywhere.

I'm looking for something compact, lightweight (I have some mobility issues) and that will not constantly clog up with cat hair.

Is this Miele worth the price or are there similar vacuum cleaners that are cheaper?

Mieles are brilliant. And last forever. Mine isn't the cat and dog, but I've heard nothing but praise for that one. And I think mine's great I think the C&D has been Which? magazine's best buy vacuum cleaner for decades.

We have the Miele cat and dog. It’s great. The suction is great on it, much better than the upright Dyson I used to have. It’s small and moves around easily. I’m so glad we changed from an upright to the Miele.

I have the Miele cat and dog and wouldn’t have anything different, 3 dogs and Maine coon cat. I bash it around the place and use it for all sorts (hello hoovering up plaster and emptying fireplaces). It also doesn’t stink of dog because it has bags. My bag-less dyson and g-tech would smell of wet dog awful when I cleaned filters and rinsed them etc…

We have a Miele cat and dog. Must be coming up 15 years old and it’s still going strong!

Gingerkittykat · 21/04/2023 19:52

It looks like I'm going to be buying a Miele C3 Cat and Dog, I never noticed the upgraded model when I first looked.

My original budget was £200 so feeling a bit weird about paying as much but if it is as good as you all say then it will be worth it. I'm putting it on Paypal credit so can pay it monthly instead of all at once which makes it seem easier to sope with.

If you're anywhere near Oxfordshire, getting one refurbished from the factory in Abingdon is a cost effective way to do it.

SQLsurfer · 21/04/2023 20:01

How much/often do you spend on bags for the Miele hoovers? How long does each bag last?

Beamur · 21/04/2023 20:11

Mine is about 20 years old and still going strong..
Don't buy the fake vacuums bags though, they're rubbish. It's worth the extra for the genuine ones.

hairdresserbreakup · 21/04/2023 20:13

Mieles are amazing. My first one was well over 20 years old, and had lived through two house renovations - that's a lot of dust. I only replaced it because bits were falling off it, the actual vacuum bit was still working fine.

Don't get the shark anti hair wrap pet one. It's absolute bollocks on yhe gear claim. I had a miele before and miss it every time I hoover.

Gingerkittykat · 21/04/2023 22:31

I already have the Shark anti wrap pet hair one and it was good at first but now clogs constantly which is why I am getting a Miele!

I was very impressed by this hoover and had one years. Only sold it as we were moving house. Very well made and amazing suction.

IcanandIwill · 21/04/2023 22:33

As others have said. Is great and would definitely recommend.

TheDogsMother · 21/04/2023 22:35

Yes totally. Mine is years old and has cleaned up after a shedding dog and three cats. Way better than a Dyson.

We got one of those as the Miele we have had bits falling off and looks really scratty. You’re right, the shark is crap. Long love the Miele even if she looks like she’s been to hell and back!

Tockomtele · 22/04/2023 07:36

The suction is great but with 4 cats I go through a lot of bags and they're not cheap. They fill up fairly quickly with tracked wood pellets.

tealgate · 22/04/2023 07:45

We've used this Return to Base service and repair from Miele after a few years. £125 and all broken bits replaced and comes back as good as new.

We are a family of Miele C&D, I have one,Dd has one and I also have late DM's one as back up for when mine needs replacing.
I also got the cordless Miele and that's very good and scary how much dirt it picks up that you get to see!

Oh a cordless Miele. I didn't know about this! My cordless is nearing the end of its life...

WildCountry · 22/04/2023 09:49

I have one and it's great! Wouldn't call it light weight though. I think it weighs a ton! But it's quite an old model and I have to carry it up and down lots of stairs.

Majorityofthree23 · 24/04/2023 15:11

I've got the cordless Miele and it's brilliant. More than I've ever paid for a hoover but I I love it.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 24/04/2023 15:18

I have a Miele Cat & Dog and a Ragdoll. Tbh it isn’t as good as I hoped. It still leaves a fine film of hair over the carpet and I invariably get down on my hands and knees with a stiff brush. I’m thinking of shaving the cat. (Joke)

HerculesMulligan · 24/04/2023 15:20

I have a Miele C&D which we bought in 2008. We then had 60 foster cats over 6 years, and it never let us down. It's still going strong, in its 15th year. I've replaced the curved bit that you hold, which had a hairline fracture after we leaned too hard on it once too often, but otherwise it's been a trooper.
