I have become a bit obsessed with it. I know you can ju it in small tubs in the baking section but surely there's a better option. Ive found it in cartons in b&m for £1.49 I think but that's not near me. I can't find it in cleaning quantities in major supermarkets. Am I missing something? Is it easier to get it online?

I'm using it for washing, floors, whites, all sorts really I love it.

Amazon here too. A 5kg tub costs just under £15 the next time buy a 5kg bag for £12.50 and refill. I use it a lot for cleaning/ laundry along with white vinegar.

Soda crystals are £1.79 for a 1kg bag in Savers. It’s slightly more alkaline than bicarbonate but chemically very similar. It’s actually better at remaining grease/stains too. I use it in my washing machine with a small scoop of laundry powder and a splash of Zoflora for fragrance.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/04/2023 11:14

Wilko does it's own brand in a box.

pastypirate · 10/04/2023 11:41

Thanks folks. I think I will order the big tub. Dp will kill me but however....oi forgot about wilko. I love that shop so much it also sells boxes of Citric acid that is alao v hard to find.

Eco cleaning has become my addiction but I used bos to clean dd2 white trainers and I was amazed!!
Apparently it's so non toxic you can eat it!

Did you not know this op?

It's used in cooking, cabbage, sprouts etc to keep their colour.
My dad used to put a spoonful in a glass of water to cure indigestion. It makes the bubbles in honeycomb and crumpets.

pinkfondu · 10/04/2023 12:12

All the cheapy shops, home bargains, savers pound shops will do it

Not a clue. I didn't really understand that the powder in a big carton is the same as in the little plastic tub in the baking section.

Also used as a raising agent in soda bread!

greenspaces4peace · 11/04/2023 11:22

You can sprinkle it on your toothbrush and use it as toothpaste.

TeaAndStrumpets · 11/04/2023 11:27

You mix it with cream of tartar to make baking powder for scones.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 11/04/2023 11:30

I've used it as a face scrub before as well.

B & Q ;)

Singleandproud · 26/04/2024 09:09

@pastypirate just check online before you start making chemical cocktails because just because it can be eaten (and makes delicious honeycomb) it is still a chemical substance and when mixed with other chemicals can react and potentially form harmful reactions.

If working and storing large quantities you should know that it can cause skin and eye irritation if it comes into contact with them when wet. If you inhale the dust it can cause respiratory issues and ingesting too much can cause gastro problems. So be aware of what you mix it with and take suitable precaution like wearing gloves and do so in a well ventilated area.

TheSandgroper · 26/04/2024 13:41

I don’t know about wearing gloves because I keep it in a dishie beside my bathroom sink to scrub my teeth with, as a scrub on my hands from time to time and occasionally on my face and body and to scrub the sink from time to time just by dabbing my damp fingers and swiping it around. I lurve using it on my feet.
