Fuse box tripped

Fuse box tripped tonight and I’ve managed to whittle it down to just kitchen, bathroom and toilet lights not coming on but the fuse system they are on is refusing to stay on.

It’s a bit dark now to investigate further and I have lamps and torches for tonight but does anyone have any ideas what I can check in the morning or should I just get professionals to check?

Might just be a bulb issue. Get some rest and look at it in the morning.

So does it go on and then trip again?

Kentishbornknitter · 06/04/2023 22:37

Take the light bulbs out and see if it trips then, if not then put the bulbs back one by one to see which one is tripping, then try a new bulb in the one that trips. You will know then if it is a wiring problem or naughty bulb.

Would it still be tripping even if all the light switches are turned off or does it still detect a faulty bulb? Just wondering as we have all switches turned off when we were checking last night.

I would have thought you'd need to turn the light switch on to see if that's the particular bulb affected

Crumpetdisappointment · 07/04/2023 07:54

i found a blown bulb trips the switch

Tumbleweed101 · 07/04/2023 13:46

We've tried taking out all the bulbs and testing individually and still not working. I wasn't aware of any bulbs blowing either yesterday. It's just odd, usually can get it sorted by doing what I've already done.

That happened to me just recently,
thought perhaps it was the kettle, or the slow cooker
never did establish what either

Is the fuse being reset and then tripping again?

Bewilderedandhurt · 07/04/2023 14:13

Possibly a loose connection in one if the Fittings or the switch. Are the pendants made of metal, a wire could be shorting on this.
If you a competent maybe check yourself or call a professional.
Is there a similar rated amp fuse you could swap in the distribution box. The trip RCD might be faulty.

Tumbleweed101 · 08/04/2023 00:45

Got an electrician to check. Turns out there was water in the light switch pull cord in the bathroom due to a possible leak into that area from outside.

He replaced the fitting and said to call immediately if it trips again at which point they will isolate it and they will come back to sort it all properly Tuesday after Easter Weekend.

At least it explains why it wouldn’t reset and I dont feel silly for phoning for help now I know what the problem is!

Thank you for all your thoughts and suggestions.
