Hi,

it all started a few days ago I noticed three black and speckled bugs on the window sill in our bedroom. I got rid of them but everyday I see 3-5 dotted around everywhere.
We’ve recently thrown out an old mattress which hadn’t been moved for years- do you think they could have been living there?

I’ve been hoovering twice a day and bought some diatomaceous earth which I’ve sprinkled in carpet corners. What els can I do? I’m losing sleep and have even cancelled a weekend away as I’m worried if I leave the house for two days not hoovered they will multiply and multiply!!

please help

Get some Ardap pest control spray from Amazon, on next day delivery.

open window, cover everything with it, carpet, mattress etc. then hoover. It's brutal and kills everything in sight.
leave room to ventilate for a while. It's utterly amazing stuff and wipes out everything in its path.

I have no idea really but are you sure they are carpet beetle and not bed bugs? Have you asked Mr Google for images? If you have been abroad recently, could you or anyone else have brought them to your home? It’s easily done via suitcases. Do you have any “bites?”

Please don’t be offended but I think bed bugs are quite challenging to get rid of so you might need professional eradication.

I hope whatever the critters are they will soon be gone. Just keep up the vacuuming especially in the nooks and crannies. Keep your nozzle busy!

I had them and they were in an old mattress. Got rid of it and hoovered every day and got one of those smoking pest control things off Amazon. Haven’t seen any since and that was a few years ago

They eat dust and dander, so anywhere that dust might accumulate they can be found.

Also (sorry this is disgusting) anything that has had remnants of dead skin or any kind of bodily fluid - spit, sweat etc - is also a food source for them. So yes, they like mattresses. Also if you store anything like clothes, bedding etc without washing it first they will go into those.

They are totally harmless except that they will eat your natural fibres and they look disgusting and creep you out.

The first spray linked is just diatomaceous earth I think.

Hoover under your beds, squish any that you find, clear any dusty corners and you'll probably find they go away, but they can also just fly in again from windows, so finding them doesn't necessarily mean that you have an infestation.

I tend to find them in stored stuff that I haven't touched for a while.

We have them too Blush

Apparently the adults like light so that's where they're found. I keep killing them when I see them but I'm not sure where they're coming from. I feel like they come in through an open window! Sneaky swines!

Going to try some of these sprays other posters have for recommended.

DH keeps saying they're harmless. Doesn't mean I want them living with me!

barbrahunter · 03/04/2023 19:44

I had some too a few years back. I bought some carpet beetle powder and sprinkled it everywhere, especially in corners of the room and I haven't seen any since.

LiftyLift · 03/04/2023 19:46

I have them and bought some paper things from Amazon that kills them. They seem to die around them and you can keep them at bay once you’ve eradicated them.

Thank you for the replies!
I would love to spray the house but have a very active three year old and a new baby on the way- 3 weeks time 🤞🏻🤞🏻 So I can’t use anything too harmful??

I can’t find the source but they seem to be just upstairs so far- where we leave windows open and have the most carept- not wool though- only cheap stuff!

They can fly in from outside so if you're leaving windows open that could be the source. Maybe clear what's there and keep windows shut and see if any more appear.

@Princessintherosecastle
Did you get rid? We found a larvae in my kids bedroom tonight after steaming and hoovering our house thoroughly for the last two months after we found an adult and larvae in our bedroom. Ffs
