Flying into Spring - The Fledglings are no Fools

ExtremelyDetermined · 31/03/2023 23:09

Time for the April Fledgling Flylady thread - regulars, returners and newbies are all very welcome, post as little or as often as you like, or just lurk, whatever suits you, but please feel free to ask if there is anything you don’t understand. Also feel free to chat!

Flylady is a system for running a household, it is a system which covers housework, a bit of self-care and quite a lot of just general organisation. It runs on a monthly cycle, hence a new thread at the start of each month. Links will be posted here daily, but do go and have a good browse of the website, just don’t sign up for the emails unless you want to add to the clutter in your inbox.

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

If you’re new to the system, or are wanting a refresher course, the baby steps may be a good idea. Some are more useful than others, we’ve found, and stuff like affirmations may not work for you, so pick and choose what you want to try. You don’t have to do it all! Perfectionism can be left at the door, we celebrate any achievement here no matter how small it seems (this is why you’ll see our Ta Da lists as well as To Do lists!).

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

There are parts of the house called zones, each taking a different part of the month, and missions in those zones to do little tasks we may have neglected. If you don’t feel ready for those though, a good way to start is doing 15 minutes decluttering in that zone! Remember it didn’t get messy in a day so it won’t be fixed in a day either. Slow and steady.

Then there’s the daily focus - each day of the week has a theme, although many of us switch them around to suit our own lives.

Each day I’ll provide the link to the launch pad, which is where you can see what is meant to be done that day (but again don’t feel you have to do all of it! That way lies burnout!).

A couple of principles we talk about on here are:
Future Friend - the idea of doing something today that benefits you later, such as choosing your clothes or making your lunch the night before.
Power of Three (po3) - if you’re overwhelmed, just pick three easy tasks - no matter how small - and forget about the rest until they’re done. Then reassess and decide another three.

Finally a few acronyms:
DW - dishwasher, not dear wife!
LOL - load of laundry, we aren’t finding washing hilarious
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer
BRC - box of random crap

A big thanks to @icypompoms for running the previous thread Flowers. The system starts properly on Monday, but the weekend is a good time to have a look at the website and start planning.

No home bleurgh as it's sunny and the school holidays.

✅shined sink
✅ s and s
✅ trip to park
✅ friends over to play in the afternoon
✅ made a vat of Ribolliata soup

ExtremelyDetermined · 03/04/2023 22:02

Lovely cake @partypompoms - reminds me of the ones we used to have as children.

I have put my Easter decorations up too. We have bunting on the fireplace and front window, tiny wooden eggs on a vase of hazel twigs and a wreath on the front door. I love all the pretty colours.

Not much Flying here today, as I was at work, but I am pleased to report that DS offered to do some food shopping and got everything on the list I left him and DD did sone laundry and hung it out. I put it in the dryer to finish off, then sorted it all and put another load to go on the line in the morning. I have neglected Zone 1, but the hall, stairs, landing and dining room are going to be completely emptied for renovations next month so I figured they can wait.

pompoms well done with the cake! You made me Google when you mentioned playboy bunny though you managed to save it with the icing 🐰

Scourgify a girl can dream for sure. I love Pinterest for ideas, but something I can get sucked into for hours on end

ED better late than never!

HungryHazelEyes · 04/04/2023 05:46

I never did get my Easter decorations up yesterday (Sunday) 😭 as I didn't feel good. I plan to get them up tomorrow (Tuesday) .. along with everything else I want to do.

I have a hair appt in the morning, I want to do gel on my nails, I have chicken tikka masala to cook, quite a time consuming dish (mostly because of the sides and prep work), and then of course all the flying to be done. Ugh! Oh, I also want to do my self tanner as well, which requires prep work, and then to fit in a workout... tomorrow will be 48 hours right?! I would do some of that stuff after work, but my working days are such long days that I'm too tired. I'm really contemplating calling in sick on Thursday.. I won't, but it's so tempting!

We also got snow today, it's gone now, but due more tomorrow. We want spring! 🥶

HungryHazelEyes · 04/04/2023 05:48

ED I forgot to mention that your decorations sound beautiful 😍 I'm also jealous of your fireplace!

HungryHazelEyes · 04/04/2023 05:50

pompoms I meant giggle not Google! How embarrassing 😳 I don't need to Google playboy bunnies! 😱 stupid auto correct

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/04/2023 08:27

Good morning.

I spent yesterday driving, so the kitchen looks like hells, there is washing that has been abandoned in the washing machine, i don't have clean trousers etc. The people are off out, ds is in college later so i will have a whole heap of time on my own to get stuff done in the house.

I should be fishing out the text books and getting some studying done, but the house really really needs dealing with. And i would really like to get some paperwork sorted and basic admin done.

Searchingforsunnydays · 04/04/2023 08:36

Thank you for the get well wishes - I'm feeling a lot better and have been out and about doing our local Easter egg hunt with dd2 yesterday along with her friend. I'm on a soft food diet so energy levels are a little low but in a strange way I feel so much better with the tooth out - I wonder whether it was poisoning my system before because as soon as I came round , I felt so much better in myself even though I am still not right if that makes any sense at all ? 🤪

For those of you that are readers , I finished 'where the crawdads sing' . I really enjoyed the book , the storyline was good , some beautiful descriptive writing. I gave it 4 stars on goodreads because I am a bit mean and will only give a 5 star rating to those books I will read again or really captured me . I'm looking forward to watching the film this weekend! Currently reading 'the silent patient' which has me hooked from the first chapter !

Hardly any housework has been done and I have no clue whereabouts fly lady zone is so I'll be having a look on the website to catch up . We'll be going out today but should get some flying done in between and I'll catch up on here and see what you've all been up to 😊

Sending ☕️☕️ to those that need it !!

ExtremelyDetermined · 04/04/2023 08:45

Glad you enjoyed the book @Searchingforsunnydays , I was one of those who didn't, but I will concede that it was beautifully descriptive. I am just getting to the end of Robert Galbraith's The Ink Black Heart, which is possibly the longest book I have ever read, I am enjoying it but it has taken months.

Flylady today is moving us into Zone 2, the kitchen

http://flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60 here is the flight plan

Today's mission is to sweep and mop your kitchen floor. Tuesday is Plan and Play Day.

Thanks ED , I have just had a look at the book on goodreads , it looks interesting , I can see it's part of a series ? Have you read the other books ?

Also a nice easy task to get back to flying, my kitchen is only small so there is not much floor to clean 👍

ExtremelyDetermined · 04/04/2023 09:37

Yes, read them all and loved them but the last two have been very long with too many characters (RG is JK Rowling so similarities with HP books in that sense). The lead characters and their story are what makes them great books.

Morning all.
Sunday I was out and about A LOT with dd2 as anxiety and new meds she was a bundle of agitation and hyperactivity.step walked 30,000+....

Yesterday I overslept, woke at 755 and was due at church for 8 to clean hall and spruce church ahead of Easter so was a throw on clothes and run out door clutching glass cleaner and rubber gloves!

3hoirs later hall hoovered and mopped and the church glass doors are cleaning,as are brasses so that was nice.althpigh it's still cleaning I enjoy that as there no clutter, decent tools(hoover etc) and I get some peace from the madhouse as left all zoolets in bed..
Got in then dd2 ask me go town with her for birdseed etc as dad ignored text ask him to before work...50 minute walk each way and pounding the streets there I was very tired in way back.come 6pm she was champ bit go out again,so briefer walk before sunset(1 hour)

It's glorious here today wall to wall sunshine and blue skies but I've said firmly I need get chores done BEFORE we go out or I'm too tired after.
Joints hurt and exhausted, but onwards and upwards...

Tada.
Cats fed.
Wash on.
Wash out all fridge containers.
Wake zoolets(they didn't get up til 11 yesterday as D's hates wasting the day and the wouldn't go bed so decided quick reset NEC or some end hols be hell on earth try re-establish anything)
All fed and watered.
Wash on line.
More wash in.
Am now sorting out zoolet snack box and removing empty boxes/wrappers from food cupboard where D's and lil zoo PUT IT BACK EMPTY😤😤😤😤😤

TO DO.
everything<sighs>

☀️ stairs hoovered

☀️ towels folded
☀️ main bathroom quick tidy
☀️ bathroom bin empty
☀️ robovac set off in bathroom / on small landing

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/04/2023 11:51

2nd load of washing that needed to be rewashed is in the machine. first load is drying. Dw has been unloaded and reloaded, and ihave spent half an hour swearing at the internet box to get it to stop it throwing a flid and actually do its one job.

I would really like to be out in the garden working in the sunshine but that is not possible, but i treated myself to 5 mins cleaning out a pot. I really do need to climb a ladder and get the sodding sycamores out of the gutter before they get any bigger and do serious damage. But today is a get sorted in the house kinda day. <sigh>

being a grown up is no fun sometimes.

Scourgify · 04/04/2023 14:03

Yesterday, I got the clothes laundry finished. Supermarket delivery has come, and probably don't need another for two weeks. That thought is quite relaxing.

Properly started in the garden by sweeping part of a path. Garden bins have been full for months, while I wrestled with the online payment system. Finally managed to pay for two bins, and much more motivated now to clear the mess of leaves and branches.

Swept up flaked-off paint from the walls of the entrance. Tbh, a bit despondent over the state of the house and gardens.

DomesticElf · 04/04/2023 14:28

I am actually doing some zone cleaning and staying on top of laundry, feeling like I am in some precarious balance there. Sanity, though? Who needs sanity 🥳

🥳Lol on, out to dry
🥳Dry laundry folded
🥳Landing, hallway, and dining room straightened, mainly by collecting random bits of mail that accumulated there
🥳All surfaces in dining room antibac-ed. Tablecloth changed.
🥳Filing done
🥳Fish tanks maintained
🥳Plants watered
🥳Quick hoover on landing and dining room.
🥳Sprayed shedloads on Zooflora onto my stinky chair. I have a feeling it may need to go to the skip..

DitzyDaffodils · 04/04/2023 17:35

Eww you can't sit on a stinky chair Elf 🤢

Are you planning to do up the garden this year then Scourgify?

Glad you had a chance to get lots done Hills but shame you had to be inside all day

How does the robovac not fall down the stairs THAT?

Hope DD 2 anxiety improves Zoo

Ta-da's:

🐤 Morning routine
🐤 Went to the garden centre for plants
🐤 Extra LOL, both drying on the line
🐤 Took out all the recycling which had built up

Morning all,

Today's flightplan is here http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

We are still in the kitchen, our mission is to clear out the fridge and Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day.

We are going away for a couple of days, I intend to keep posting but in case the wifi is bad, the flightplan updates daily so you can always scroll back up a day or two. I'd better get moving.
