Ring door bell question

warmmfeet · 30/03/2023 18:17

Unfortunately we've had 3 different men trying to gain access to our house in the past 10 days which has led us to install a ring door bell.

Earlier I had the app open with the live view and the Amazon delivery man arrived, he posted the parcel through the letter box and left. I can see him on the play back but it doesn't say "person detected" and I didn't get a notification.

Can anyone tell me - is that because I had 'live view' open ?

Earlier this morning it picked up my husband and rang / notified me. but I didn't have the app open then.

Thank you

Yes it’s because you had the app open and we’re already looking at it, so nothing to notify. Why are so many people trying to break into your house?

I would also add it’s worth getting the ring chime (£20) that you plug in. It then makes a noise when movement is detected handy if your phones on silent etc.

@BeetyAxe thanks.

I think (and police agree) they have been casing our house this week. First bloke cold called trying to come in and have a look at insulation/ potential for solar energy to give me a quote. Was a bit odd but declined and didn't think too much about it. Next day I saw a random man come in the front gate walk around the house and garden then left out the back without ringing the doorbell, I called after him and he shouted back he was a window cleaner looking for work in the area, then yesterday a random knocked on the door and asked if I could fill up his water bottle. Apparently all known tactics to check if/ when people are at home, look at entrances etc

Really horrible tbh

We also have cameras at the back and they're linked to our Alexa devices so if there's anybody that triggers them it speaks and tells us which is useful on an evening when phones are often on silent and people busy in the house.

You can also connect ring to an alexa if you have one. Mine says motion detected at the front door when it picks up someone, before they ring the bell

Sorry you are experiencing problems with unwanted callers. We recently installed the ring doorbell with chime, I didn’t really know if it was worth ordering with the chime but as it wasn’t expensive I did. Been good so far, I am not always not near my iPad or phone.

I see that they've walked around to the back of the house. Is there a way to fit a lock gate on the side.

I was burgled a couple of times and ever since I've made sure that wherever we live, the garden gates are locked and we have a side gate so that people can't just walk to the back.

Obviously of anyone is determined, they'll still get in but it just makes opportune burglary less likely.

BeetyAxe · 30/03/2023 20:44

We also have a ring camera connected at the back of the house and there’s a siren on it too. How horrible for you that these scumbags are doing this.

warmmfeet · 30/03/2023 21:59

Thanks all. We've ordered the chimes and a camera for the back doors now. Im going to padlock the back gate.

Yes it's really unsettling, I'm hoping they will notice the ramped up security and get put off.
