Two broken dishwashers in two years

What the title says really! Our 4 year old Electrolux dishwasher broke down last year - it kept leaking into the base of the unit. 5 visits from various Electrolux repair people failed to fix the problem (or rather they claimed it was fixed, only for it to break down again within 24 hours). Eventually, after making several complaints about the poor repair service, we got a free dishwasher from AEG (part of the same company). One year later and the same fault has reoccurred. No blockages anywhere but the anti-flood device still comes on. What on earth are we doing wrong??? I can't bear to go through the same repair service again and be without a dishwasher for months.

Do you rinse all your dishes first or straight in? (I don’t just mean scrape - like mine are probably almost clean)

By the way I’d ask for A straight replacement as not fit for purpose as I wouldn’t expect a dishwasher to last a year. However you may struggle as it was a replacement for the previous one so they may not be forthcoming

Get a Bosch

StacieBenson · 25/03/2023 16:52

@Wellillsayitifnoonelsewill good question. I rinse but couldn't answer for DH.... No way will Electrolux give us another product, they got incredibly annoyed with me by the end.

@ChangedmynameagainforChristmas love Bosch. Had their products in our old place and they never let us down. Moved to a new build with "upgraded" Electrolux products and the dishwasher/washing machine both broke within the first year...

Sounds like it’s time for a new one if you can’t get one from manufacturer. I don’t think I’d be wasting time and money on repair unless it’s free and I’d avoid that brand like the plague.

Bosch or Miele is what you need.

Skyeheather · 25/03/2023 17:15

I'm surprised they replaced a four year old dishwasher, usually once the warranty runs out you're on your own as far as repairs go.

You don't need to call out Electrolux to come and look at it, it's always expensive to get a manufacturers repair. Look for a local dishwasher repair person to come out and look at it. If the cost of repair (including the call out charge) is more than half the cost of a new dishwasher you are better off buying a new one.

Bosch dishwashers come with a two year warranty, most other manufacturers are one year. Our last Bosch dishwasher lasted 20 years and we got a second about a three years ago.

You're not supposed to do this! I agree, get a Bosch!

Omg why would you rinse things? Totally pointless waste of time and water!

Do you clean your dishwasher regularly?

Definitely - one of the few household tasks DH can be relied on to do!

We’ve always bought fairly basic dishwashers as we know they break easily. We have a hot point one now, that’s lasted 3 years so far touch wood We pay under £300 for them. I’m on my 5th dishwasher in 12 years.

Get a Bosch

This. Washing machines and dishwashers have stood us in good stead over the years.
A repair engineer recently told us it was a very reliable brand for both appliances and for fridges too.

whirlyhead · 25/03/2023 17:59

I hate dishwashers. I never get on with them. I’m in an ongoing stand off with my current 2 year old AEG that sometimes works when I turn it on and sometimes doesn’t.

it just sits in the kitchen laughing at me.
