What do you store in your utility room?

I'm moving into a new house and was over there cleaning the utility room there today. I've never had a proper utility room before, I've had a small space that contains washed and dryer with a bit of shelf space above it, but that's about it.

New house has a sink and fitted cupboards and it occurred to me I've no real idea what people actually store in their utility rooms so I thought I would ask here.

Also if you have a utility sink cupboard and kitchen sink cupboard where do you keep your cleaning products?

DH ‘s ( enormous, men have such big feet) walking boots on a tray to keep them off the floor. His walking poles, which are supposed to live in the porch but just get dumped by the back door. His gardening gloves ( on the work surface grrrr)

A coat rack with the broom, the fluffy duster thing, both gardening fleeces , my hat and neck warmer, his cap and a bag of spare pegs.

The washing machine and associated liquids, the boiler, a compost caddy which has the tea leaves emptied into it so we don’t have to go out in the morning.

An enormous calor gas heater in case of power cuts. That goes in the space where a freezer would very conveniently sit, but which is in the garage because the heater lives in its space ( a bit grrrr as well).

a key rack with the garage motor control and the gate keys.

There are also two lovely and quite valuable paintings which there is no room for in the house, and which gladden my heart every time I go in there. They make up for the sticks 🤦🏻‍♀️

Its only a small space but we have washing machine and dryer.Worktop. 2x shower curtain rails on which I hang washing to dry (haven't got the ceiling height for a laundry dolly unfortunately). All cleaning products, all medicines, kids paints, fridge freezer. Bin bags, light bulbs, selection of small tools, gardening gloves and shears. Basically since we've had it the kitchen only contains kitchen related items and food, everything else goes in the utility and the door can be closed! Bliss.

My utility room has

  • extension cords / electrical wires / disco lights
  • mouse traps
  • paints and brushes, sander, sandpaper, general decorating equipment
  • toolbox, drill, drill bits
  • gardening gloves, hose attachments, sprinkler etc (I have a shed but it’s too far away for everyday stuff), weedkiller, secateurs, a tiny hand held spade
  • laundry detergents, water softener salts, brushes
  • the bread maker
  • A fridge freezer

I love my utility room and I think I store lots of bits that would normally go in a garage or shed there so they’re easily accessible.

Mine is my favourite room in the house.

We have:

Candles & tealights
Spare soaps and handwashes
Stocks of rubber gloves and washing up sponges
Shoe cleaning kit
Basket of batteries of all sizes and types
Light bulbs
Bird food for the wild birds
Vases
House plant stuff
Different types of glue, silver polish etc
Thermos flasks

Basket with dusters and furniture polish + other cleaning equipment
Spare stocks of cleaning products
Buckets
Box of old cleaning cloths (clean) for dirty jobs like cleaning boots and windows
Laundry products
Iron
Box of clothes pegs
Laundry baskets

It also has a full-size sink we use for mucky jobs, and the washer/dryer.

There’s nowhere for the ironing board, so that lives in the tall cupboard under the stairs, with the airer, the hoover and the floor mop.

Kitchen sink cupboard - fairy liquid, surface spray, kitchen cloths, kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets, bin liners. That's about it. It's a pretty empty cupboard tbh.
Utility room has one double cupboard and 2 shelves.
The 2 shelves have medicine, first aid and sick bowl on one and vases and alcohol on the other.
Cupboard has all other cleaning supplies for the whole house including bathroom cleaning stuff (spray, bleach etc), kitchen stuff other than surface spray (oven cleaner, dishwasher salt etc), glass cleaner, cloths, extra of kitchen roll etc.
Plus laundry stuff like detergent, peg bag, spot treatment for stains etc.
That all fills the top shelf. Bottom shelf is spare batteries, lightbulbs, extension cables, bits of random plastic that were in the dishwasher and fridge etc that we don't use but also don't want to get rid of. The junk drawer basically.
