What's wrong with my dishwasher?

For the last few days I have found the dishwasher tablet partially dissolved on the bottom and the dishes not cleaned properly.

Any bright ideas?

Mine does this occasionally, is the little door that holds the tablet closing properly? Is the water temp OK?

I wondered if it's to do with the water temperature too. I generally use the economy cycle so it could be that I suppose.

Btw, how long is a standard cycle?

Our dishwasher has always been rubbish if we use tablets, especially the ones that are supposed to do everything. We use a liquid in ours now, maybe you could try a liquid for the economy cycles? Works out cheaper too :-)

if the tabs aren't disolving every time it sounds as though something is wrong and simply switching to liquid won't fix the prob iyswim?

Mine is AGES, somewhere around 2 hours. Try running it once empty at the hot temperature in case there are pipes blocked or something. Other thing is that you might have had things stopping the jets revolving - e.g. a cup handle stikcing down. and that would limit the water getting to the tablet...

I suppose it depends on how long you've had the problem, and whether its limited to the cycle or tablets you are using? Our dishwasher was free with the kitchen so is just a cheapee one. Its never worked well with tablets.
